Fluctuating hearing
Does anyone have experience with their LO having fluctuating hearing loss? My DH with AL does have hearing loss, but has been able to understand me if I speak just a little louder than normal. But, lately, there have been several days when he hasn't heard me or everything is garbled for him. I cannot tell if he is actually not hearing me or if that is something going on in his brain. I am aware of the relationship between hearing loss and dementia. Surely, we are not alone with this experience.

First thing would be for Dr to check her ears. My mom used to have to have wax removed regularly

Wax could be a problem.
Comprehension could be key. Speak slowly after making certain you have your husband's attention.
I think hearing loss comes "before" the dementia.

I saw a video for caregivers that said to get in front of the PWD and at eye level and speak slowly and in short sentences. It could be his hearing or his dementia.

The dr had recently removed DH's ear wax. Ty to all , I will be more mindful to make sure that I am speaking slower and have his full attention.

What you are seeing could also be a function of poor auditory processing.
It might be helpful to remove distraction like TV or music if that applies.2 -
Sometimes my wife hears me but does not respond because she can't process the words so I have to say it again in a different, slower, shorter way.

Could be an ear infection or maybe fluid in the ear. Happens to my DH and causes "fluctuations" in his ability to hear me.
