Hallucinations
My husband was diagnosed with Alzheimers last year. He is experiencing quite a few hallucinations nearly all day. Has anyone dealt with this much and if so what did you do? He is aware that what he is seeing is probably not there but is confused because he really sees it. Just wondering if there is any meds out there that can help with this?
Thanks!

I'm sorry for you and your husband. You found good company here.
If you haven't already, your husband should see a neurologist for a diagnosis. They can best determine the best path forward.
Take care.

Welcome. Yes, hallucinations are common in dementia. Get in his reality and don’t try to tell him they don’t exist. Unless they are disturbing him. I wouldn’t worry. If they are causing him anxiety there are medications that will help. The best type of doctor to manage meds for dementia is a Geriatric Psychiatrist. Ask for a referral to one. Read the book “The 36 Hour Day” and search online for dementia caregiving videos by Tam Cummings or Teepa Snow which are very helpful.

You did not say what type of hallucinations your DH is experiencing but my DW reacted to reflections of herself and others in windows, mirrors, television screen, etc., etc. She truly believed there were other people in the house and it frightened or angered her so much. It compounded to make her fearful that people had access into her home and we needed to change the locks or other actions. I ended up finding materials to cover most all windows and mirrors or removing what I could. The more I removed the triggers the better her behavior.
