Suggestions on how to deal with medication refusal

My DH has recently started having some significant behaviors. His delusions have increased constantly saying I have a problem and need to go to the doctor. Blocks me from going upstairs etc. Nothing physical. He starting taking 25 mg of serequel in the afternoon. I called the dr. to request an increase so I have started him on 25 mg twice a day. But now he is refusing to take his medication. Any suggestions on how to get him to take his medication. He is also on Zoloft and should not stop that abruptly. I crashed one of his pills and put it in his soda but he poured some of it out so I am not sure he got all of it.

Crush his medicine put it in food ,like ice cream or something sweet that he likes.

You should ask your doctor or pharmacist if it can be crushed. Some medications should not be crushed.

As Jeff H posted, some medications cannot be crushed. Ask the doctor or pharmacist for meds that are either liquid or pills that can be crushed. If crushed, applesauce or pudding is usually good to mix the crushed pills with.

Is he refusing to take the medication because he knows what it’s for and doesn’t think he needs it? If that’s the case I would tell him it’s for high blood pressure or that it’s some new vitamins the doctor wants him to take.

Yes. I too use that. Her favorite doctor before my DW's Alzheimer's diagnosis was Dr. Garlapati. He has since retired. She still knows his name. When I give her the medications I simply say, "Here are your daily meds from Dr. Garlapati." It' works every time. No questions asked.

I had trouble getting my DH to take his medication. Sometimes I would crush pills and hide them in pudding or applesauce. Often if he refused I would ask again at regular intervals and eventually he would say yes.

Yes I discovered the timing of when I give him his medication makes a difference. The increased dosage of Serequel the dr order seems to have kicked in and he is much calmer.
