Successful Strategy: Circumventing Buying Expensive Shampoo
My mom moved near me with a small very expensive bottle of shampoo that her old salon had been selling her. $60 for 8 ounces! And she kept demanding more once she moved here. I tried and tried to explain how it wasn't necessary to pay that much. I even researched shampoos that would give "similar" results at a reasonable cost and she refused to use it. So . . . . . . . now . . . . once a month, when she is downstairs in the dining room, I go to her apartment, taking a bottle of Kirkland brand shampoo that is the same color and smell as her expensive one and fill up her small bottle! It has been working for me for over a year now! I keep it about 3/4 full and it never goes empty on it.
It is so hard not complying with something your parent has told you to do— I was a compliant daughter! It is so hard!

What a smart idea! Love it. You are doing a great job for your mom. I was a compliant daughter too. Now we have to put that to use by caring for our moms when they can't understand or agree with what the actually need.

I kind of giggled a bit when I saw your post because I have a mom-shampoo story too. My mom asked for a salon brand shampoo that her sister gifted her years ago. I bought it and delivered it to her last month. She was happy as a lark. Fast forward two weeks the bottle is missing from her hidden stash of treasures. She normally keeps her personal care items locked away safe. She asked me to buy her more shampoo….the kind I use. I brought it over and a couple days later she handed it back to me letting me know that it made her hair dark. She has grey hair and it's just normal, regular shampoo (no darkening happening). I didn't argue, I just said "oh, okay". I went to the store and bought her a different shampoo and delivered it. She seemed to like the smell and the bottle….we'll see if she keeps it, gives it back or throws it away. I like the idea of you refilling her bottles!

Thanks for the idea. My mom insists on using this expensive face wash as a body soap. I have gone along with it but I cringe every time I get it. She insists she needs it because her eczema. I can’t imagine it makes that much difference. I might try your idea.
