Missing Joe

Good evening all,

I just want to put some timeline out there. I know my situation is unlike those of many who have been married all their adult lives. Joe and I were married about 9.5 years, and together 13. He was in memory care for about a third of our marriage.

They put Joe on hospice at the end of February. His dad died at the end of March. The remaining son decided not to have a service, because there was no one left to come, but I told my mother-in-law I'd come out and see her. Before I could get there, the second week of May, Joe had died, leaving her down two sons, but with one remaining in town with her.

I went to see her last week, and we had the best time. She'd been crying a lot before I got there, but while I was there we ran errands and went out to eat. We swapped family stories and reminisced about our guys. I hope it was exactly what she needed, but I can say it was exactly what I needed.

Thanks for reading. No advice, no questions, just telling my story.

I hear you @sandwichone123 I'm glad you were able to share stories with your MIL. It sounds nice.

I did the same thing with some of my sister's friends. We just sat around, had food, and swapped Peggy stories. In fact, I just made a date with another one of my sister's friends - we're going to meet up in wine country (Geyserville), raise a glass to Peggy, and share stories.

Hearing about this from you two has lifted my spirits. I'm planning a second celebration of life for my DW's good friends who could make it here for the first, which was mostly family. I'm really looking forward to this second, smaller affair with her friends. They're all such lovely people and I can't wait to share Suze stories with them.
