My mom wears a diaper all the time but recently we are having issues with her wetting the bed at night.

Welcome. I bought the tena overnight on Amazon. I would also recommend a full all sides mattress protector. You may also find the small pad that sets on top helpful. I hope this is helpful.

I would guess that a layered system similar to the above would be helpful, too - so you can peel off a wet layer without needing to re-make the bed during the night. I did that with my kids when they were little.

Would a Purewick system be feasible?

My experience has been that It's easier for the PWD to make sense of familiar things. The catheter and suction part of the Purewick might be too strange and cause them to remove it, especially if they get confused at night. My mom certainly had hers off of her ASAP when she was in the hospital, But, as always with this disease, you never know.
