Memory Care Facility

Anyone in Massachusetts have their LO in a memory care facility and have to pay with their own finances being they do not qualify for Medicaid. I have checked into one near me and there is no way I could afford it without going bankrupt in a very short period time. Any information will be appreciated….thank you.

    Have you talked to an elder law attorney. I don't know about where you are but in some states there are ways to protect your assets and qualify for Medicaid. When you read the Medicaid qualifications they don't tell you all the options so seeing a qualified attorney is probably worth it.

    I'm in Mass. I just got all legal paperwork done last month with elder law attorney in W Springfield. My wife has PCA.

    I was told by the attorney and confirmed by my financial person that I will be able to keep my house plus $168,000. We have about twice that amount in retirement accounts so I will definitely have pay out of pocket for a while before we can get Medicaid (Masshealth).

    Some people would not like that deal but I can live with it. Hope it helps.

    You should speak to an elder law attorney for advice. You may pay $500 for an hour but it is well worth it.

    I do have an elder law attorney now that is reworking our trust but have not yet talked about protecting any assets but will certainly be doing that.
