Non Stop Talking

My DW has not stopped talking since we came home from shopping at 1 pm today.

When there is a slight pause she streams all kinds of accusations at me whch I deny as calmly as I can. She rants about people watching us or people stealing money she claims she has hidden. There is or has been a variety of caustic topiics including her belief of my infidelity. This is all so stressful and upsetting! I have read this is common behavior in middle stage of Alzheimer's but I am at a wits end right now. Gotta call our Pcp on Monday.. I request prayers from everyone .

This is such a difficult time. It's hard not to deny obviously false accusations, but sometimes that causes the behavior to escalate. Some suggest agreeing with them, which I could never bring myself to do, but I would say things like, "I will check on it," or "I will report that," which may be a lie, but it does help her feel calmer. Accusations of the caregiver (theft, infidelity) are harder, but I might say something about the feeling rather than the factual basis, "that must feel awful," or "I will take care of you."

I'm so sorry. I remember that phase in my DW. Incredibly difficult period.

    Big hug.

you can’t reason with someone whose reasoner is broken. Don’t deny accusations. Apologize and promise not to do it again. Or tell her you will fix it. These are delusions. There are medications that will help. Talk to her doctor.
