Day 5 of no food/water. Emotional rollercoaster. I've spent years anticipating this, but I didn't expect it to be this difficult. Yesterday I found a pressure ulcer on his coccyx because I've been avoiding the pain of repositioning. As a retired nurse, this absolutely gutted me.

This must be a devastating time for you. I too am a retired nurse, and watching a loved one slip away physically or cognitively is deeply personal. Be gentle with yourself, you are doing the best you can and that's all anyone can ask. I wish you peace and strength.

I am so sorry. While we have a long time to brace ourselves it's still a difficult time. I was relieved that my mom was no longer tethered to a body and mind that were failing, but it didn't make getting to that point any easier. Am praying for you both…
