Any experience with urge incontinence?

My DH with VD is still continent and can do his ADLs independently. His memory is pretty good, is aware of his surroundings, doesnt wander and is still ambulatory. We have a urinal in each vehicle to facilitate frequent urination and urge incontinence. He will use it, but sometimes struggles to get his jeans zipper down and or navigating the opening in the front of his briefs underwear. He frequently wets his underwear and sometimes more as he struggle to get the urinal to his penis. I'm wondering if any of you have suggestions on something that would have easier access, either underwear or shorts. He does not want to wear depends. I have purchased the urine guards or shields that go in the underwear but am afraid another layer to move out of the way will just slow down time to the urinal. I've read about the fabric type of underwear that are supposed to feel like regular underwear. Do they have a normal fly/ access? I'd appreciate any suggestions. This is the part of the move i most regret. I want him to be comfortable and I don't want to stress. I thought about a pair of baggy pull on shorts and we have a urinal with a large base container that could sit on the car floor with a long hose and an attached cup. He could cover his lap with a towel, go comando and sit on a chux just in case. Pls let me know what you think might work. Tysvm!

When we run errands around town, We are moving cross country later this summer

I found these on Amazon for my husband. I believe if you look through their offering you’ll be pleased. I know how frustrating these situations can be. Good luck!

my husband had this exact problem a few years ago and it was due to his enlarged prostrate- had nothing to do with his dementia. Urologist prescribed Flomax and it was and is a game changer.

We tried flomax and another similar one two yrs ago. It helped with the enlarged prostate but unfortunately it tanked his BP to critical levels. Had to stop Flomax to get BP up to normal level.

Same exact thing here. Tamsulosin reduces the urge to urinate. Check it out.

FYI - When DH first developed urge incontinence, I wanted to save money on a reusable product and be eco-friendly. So I bought a brand of cloth incontinence underwear (Zorbies). They worked as advertised for absorbing leaks, but, they took 3 hours on the dry cycle to get completely dry after washing. Not worth the extra trouble to properly launder them. I don't recommend.
