Dear @jsps139_ Wow! What a nightmare!

I think Your DH’s unconsciousness and subsequent week-long stay in the hospital threw him into a ‘tailspin’. This might dissipate and he could be back to his original baseline; or more probably he will plateau on the higher end of the spectrum. If hospice was called in, your DH could be nearing or in stage 7. The symptoms you describe point to that.

I recommend you talk frankly with the hospice nurse when they visit. An experienced nurse will have a good sense of what you might expect.

God bless you for being there for your DH.

It is possible for a return to baseline or near baseline. I have had experience with managing delirium. There were other complications. I wish you the best of luck.

was he tested for other illnesses, flu, Covid, UTI? My husband had a terrible two days of delirium after getting the flu. He also couldn’t walk, didn’t know who I was, wouldn’t eat or drink. After the illness that caused it (flu) got better he slowly went back to his baseline. I wish you the best. It is very scary to go downhill so quickly.

My DH was hospitalized for about 8 days and had hospital delirium the entire time he was hospitalized. He also lost his ability to stand, walk and was incontinent. Once he was home he returned to baseline in about 4 days. The delirium subsided as soon as he returned home. On the second day he started to slowly improve in the other areas of daily living.
