40Hz Light & Sound Brain Stimulation

I have been doing a lot of reading on how 40Hz Light/Sound Brain Stimulation can help Alzheimer (and other dementia) patients. This approach was hatched at MIT by a pair of MIT professors so there is science behind it.

Two start-up companies are doing significant trials with their 40Hz products. The most prominent, is Cognito Therapeutics and their Spectris product. The read-out for their trial will occur late summer 2026. Spectris is NOT available to purchase and will not be in the best case scenario for at least a year because Cognito is going for FDA approval as a medical device. The other company is Optoceutics and their device is called EVY. The EVY product is currently available to purchase as a health product while their ALZLIGHT trial is ongoing. There are other 40Hz products that are available from Amazon.

Does anybody have any experiences with these 40Hz light and/or sound brain stimulation products. If so, please do tell us about it.

    I don't have any experience with this therapy but I am aware of it. This is a 2016 story in the MIT paper about the approach. It seems to me if there was some real benefit, 10 years on from this article we would be much further along. My DW's neurologist is the leading dementia research doctor at the local university medical school. When I asked him about this therapy in 2023, he said had not even heard of it.

    Tim. Thank you for the response. I wish the technology would be much further along. You make a good point. It appears that the approach (in terms of a treatment) has received more interest recently. The CEO of Cognito Therapeutics presented on BrightsideFocus within the last year and the HOPE trial is finishing up this summer. Still looking for anybody that has tried the EVY device or any of the other 40Hz brain stimulation devices available on-line.

    My DW participated in the Cognito Hope Trial for 6 months in 2023. She dropped out after 6 months due to her anxiety issues caused by the daily testing requirement and the frequent MRI's, which she couldn't tolerate. I was always surprised that she was accepted into the trial because she was clearly past "early" stage. I always thought that they selected her to be in the placebo group. The daily testing involved 10-15 minutes doing exercises on an I-Pad followed by an hour of sitting with headphones and a pair of virtual reality style glasses. We never saw any improvement and gradually the anxiety over the process became too much.

    My father was 95 yrs old at the time and dx with MCI, Stable. I bought an iPad Pro and used the AlzLife app to generate gamma audio and video. He participated in a 6 month study. It helped his cognition. An iPad Pro is required to generate the gamma frequency utilized by the app.

    thank you for the reply. there's the good and bad to your experience. Your DW did not see cognitive improvement in the 6 months and I'm sure the stress didn't help. On the other hand, the testing for the HOPE trial appears legit so hopefully the results will be objective and meaningful one way or the other. I read from the first trial called the OVERTURE study that the read-out resulted in anywhere from 70 - 85% reduction in decline of daily function, cognitive function, and MRI brain volume. Not sure there is a hypothesis for actual improvement although in reading the MIT white papers on GENUS; there is mention of the possibility for improvement resulting from improved brain infrastructure stability and microglia performance. The science being very foreign to me.

    I just received the Optoceutics EVY 40 Hz product. Will post on our experiences with this device and my DW, who has been diagnosed with early stage alzheimers
