Found sitting on the floor again

I guess I'm just venting because the nursing home called again at 6 am to tell me that my DH was found sitting on the floor again at 4:30 AM. This is the second time within the past 5 days that he was found on the floor.

DH is stage 7 and on hospice. He can no longer walk, but he can slide himself off the bed, which has an air mattress to prevent pressure sores. The bed is low to the floor and there is a crash mat on the floor. He wears Posey hipsters to cushion his hips. He has slid off the bed many times in the past 6 months. The NH can't use bed rails other than those near his head because they are a restraint.

Lately he has increased agitation. His roommate's wife even mentioned it to me. I just put a call into hospice to have the nurse call me. Maybe he needs a meds adjustment or has a UTI? I just don't know anymore…. This is so hard and disheartening.

I hope they easily discover the issue and are able to get him back to baseline calm. This can't be the first time they are dealing with a patient in their care that is having this issue. Hang in there you are doing great.

My mom used to get that call from the MCF as well. It was annoying because sitting on the floor was a thing dad had always done. As he got less steady on his feet, he would do it if he felt her might fall.

We were told the MCF was legally obligated to inform us of a presumed fall.

I like you idea of talking to hospice about this. I hope you both get some relief around this.
