First bowel movement disaster

I've been used to the urine accidents but this bowel movement accident is at a different level. I won't go into the details. Let's just say it took me an hour or two to clean it up.

My DW was so apologetic about it. She kept saying over and over, "That wasn't me." I just reassured her that everything is okay. It took me to tears.

I made a few changes. I now have a removeable shower head to assist with showering all over. I have a motion sensor in our bedroom, so if she gets up, I am notified. I was able to put her in an Always Discreet Adult Diaper for Women which she would not put on before. That's a huge plus! The mattress is protected also.

There are so many hurdles with awful disease. I just feel so sorry for my DW who I love.

Thank you for posting this, some helpful advice and I must say you sound as if you handled the situation with loving care. Well done. My DH is still continent but I have to help during the day and he can no longer wipe his bottom so if I don’t catch him his undies do the wiping. Not nice. I’m dreading the day of night time incontinence. It is saving on a lot of toilet paper. 🤣

You’re handling it so well. It’s amazing how we adjust and get creative as things change or progress.
I can relate to your last sentence “I feel sorry for my DW who I love”. The heartbreak of seeing DH having trouble like this was worse than the mechanics of dealing with the aftermath.

You’ve got this, @Jeff H ! I applaud your fortitude, and also your loving way with DW. What we all are learning to do throughout this awful journey is amazing! Thank goodness for pull-ups, diapers, mattress protectors and the like!

I’ve also placed gloves in the bathroom and found flushable wipes to help with those accidents. The wipes are made by Cottonelle and I got them on Amazon in a 3 pack.

jgreen's advice about gloves and wipes is good. You also may want to invest in a can or two of shaving cream. The shaving cream makes clean up easier. I used it a couple of times when DH was still at home. Some caregivers have invested in a bidet to help make for easier personal clean up. You sound like you handled a rough situation with compassion. You're wife is blessed to have you taking care of her.

This is about where we are. Sounds like you got quite the surprise. So far, I have only received half surprises but can guess what is coming. You handled it well. My DW says that exact same thig " it wasn't me". we are using Always Discreet now but I'm going to check out Tena over nights hopefully for more coverage.

Your shaving cream hint sounds interesting. How is it applied? On a wipe or before shower or ??? Sorry for being so dense but I love a good hint.

dcare45, the shaving cream is used to clean up the mess. Sometimes it ends up on the floor. Spraying it with shaving cream, makes it easier to clean up. it also helps neutralize the odor a bit. I hope this helps.
