need help dealing with delusions

My DH has told me that the neighbors across the street have 20 or more children in their basement. He claims he saw it on live video through the Zillow real estate app. He asked my opinion of what he should do about it. I advised him to do nothing right now. He sits and mulls it over in his head and worries.

I don't think he will do anything himself, but he might try calling police or family services.

The reality: a nice young family lives there. They are good neighbors and have been helpful to us. They have four children and often have visitors who have young children.

There is no reason to suspect anything bad going on there. I intend to give them a heads up. They know DH has been confused about some things.

Thanks for any tips on how to talk to DH about this. His appointment isn't until Aug 12, but I worry that's too far out.

I would fib to him. Arguing or correcting him does no good. Tell him you went and talked to them and they told you they sent all the children home. Tell him you checked their basement and there are no children in there. Don’t let him watch the news. Sometimes stories cause delusions. There are medications that can help delusions and hallucinations. Speak to the doctor about it.

Thanks. I was careful not to argue, but suggested the children were there for daycare. He was skeptical but didn't disagree. I offered to go over and talk to the neighbors, but DH didn't think that was safe for me. I offered to make a (pretend) phone call to an appropriate agency and DH said he might do that himself (very unlikely.)

Now it looks like the family are packing the car for a trip. DH didn't make any comments of concern. He had a good nights sleep, so hopefully it will be a better day.
