Constant talking
I feel very blessed with my situation. DH is probably in late Stage 5 moving quickly to 6. He’s very kind, gentle, soft spoken and always has been. Unfortunately, he’s lost the ability to carry on a full conversation but our days are good and I think he’s happy and content. However, our dear friend has quite the opposite situation with his DW. She never stops talking. She babbles non-stop about nothing. She never makes sense at all. I fear for our friend’s sanity. It is really hard on him. Does anybody else deal with this and, if so, do you have any suggestions for meds that mat help? She’s on an anti-anxiety med but I don’t think it’s helping. I would think there’s got to be something that can curb the chatter. Any suggestions would be helpful!

Here ya go, right here. I have the extra added attraction of them not even being words. I call it humbling - humming and mumbling. Pretty mind numbing. During all waking hours. Also, my DW is always on her feet walking and touching until the meds finally kick in. After months of just serequol and lexapro we introduced depakote. Finally some down time. She actually ate sitting down! Too much ground to cover but a combination of serequol, buspirone, and a low dose Valium as needed is where we are now. Also temazepam for sleeping. Also, you’re going to need help if you don’t have it yet. You gotta get out of there occasionally. But know this too - they can’t help it. The vocalization is a self soothing method. Another thing your friend can consider is AirPods. It is helpful at times.

My DH does a lot of talking too, but mostly around other people. He talks about his car, how he doesn't have it anymore, how he needs to get a new one (NEVER happening!), about his old boss at his old job. He goes on and on, most of the time not making much sense. Thank goodness most of the people he talks to are aware of his condition, so they are very understanding. But he goes on and on! When it's just the two of us, he doesn't do it. I wonder if it's a type of showboating.
He also wants to do social activities ALL THE TIME. We are, fortunately, very socially active with family and friends. But he always wants to "have some fun!" He wakes up in the morning and asks, "What are we doing today? Where are we going? Who are we going to see?" I'm really glad that he wants to do things, but sometimes it's exhausting. I have a calendar for him with all of our activities on it, and he likes to check it, to see what's coming up. That helps a little, but he is not good at using a calendar and he can't remember upcoming events.
It could be much worse! One day at a time…..

I honestly don’t know how he doesn’t lose his mind. There’s not one thing she says that makes sense. Complete gibberish. They took an 8-hour road trip the other day and she didn’t stay quiet for a minute. I’m very concerned about him. I’m going to mention these meds to him and see if he will talk to her dr about them. Thank you!

To dampen the noise. AirPods have a noise cancellation mode. You can still hear outside noise but it helps. And you can put on music or a show. It’s not a perfect solution but it helps. If you have to walk around and keep eyes on the person it helps. And yes, he will lose his mind occasionally. And I’m not trying to be funny. He can try to shush her. Sometimes it works for a few seconds or a minute. Any relief is worth it. He can try putting the AirPods on her with music. Sometimes it works.

My husband can be like a chihuahua! OMG…if he sees me, or anyone, he will just yap away!! It makes me crazy sometimes. He's like a noise machine and all I want is quiet. I have to send him to the TV room several times a day just to clear my own head!! He's lonely and bored ALL THE TIME! If I let him, he'd follow me everywhere all day. It gets claustrophobic sometimes. He's had issues with agitation and aggression but we put him on Risperidone and it's helped a lot.
I just can't keep up! It's exhausting and a ton of work. He's still able to do his own ADL's if I remind him or guide his choices and behavior. But he can't do anything alone at this point really except watch TV. I have an aide that comes twice a week and I'm signing him up for an adult day care program. Hoping that helps. I don't think he's quite ready for MC but he's needing more help than I can give him at this point and still be able to navigate all the other things I have to do. I'm thinking of putting him in next year as he seems to be deteriorating at a pretty steady clip. It's the most difficult thing I've ever had to do and I can't imagine doing it….but here I am. We've been inseparable for 39 years. The letting go is so hard.
