You might remember I broke my foot in June and was in a non weight bearing cast for almost 8 weeks. This morning I had an early followup orthopedic visit with X-rays. My alarm was set to go off @ 6:30. In a panic I awoke @ 8:15, couldn’t find my phone and had clearly missed my appointment. DH had my phone and said “it was ringing so I turned it off.” Never occurred to him it was ringing for a reason. He had of course forgotten that I told him last night I would be leaving early for a doctor appointment. The only good news is thankfully I wasn’t leaving for a flight to somewhere… and it shows just how exhausted I am that I didn’t hear the alarm go off. I rescheduled the appointment.

    I get exasperated when DH does something a little peculiar (usually causing me extra work) I think to myself "why the heck would he do that?" Then I have to remind myself…because he has dementia. Frustrating, yes. Still, sorry you had to miss your dr. appt.

    Reminds me when my DW brought me the 1/2 full coffee pot into the living room to tell me it was only half-done perking. Of course, the other half was now on the counter and floor. 🤷‍♀️. Funny now not so funny then. She was only trying to help.

    Hope your foot checks out OK.

    @Lethe

    I’m sorry you missed your appointment!
    The posts on this message thread make me somewhat grateful that my husband (stage 5) doesn’t “do” anything. I see now that I’m spared some frustrations because of his inactivity. He spends all day watching tv from bed in his room. Though I still wonder where most of our dinner forks are. They’ve gone missing and I have no clue.

    Dear @Lethe

    Come here and vent as often as you need. It looks like some of us are in same boat as you - I have to check DH’s pockets several times a day because he ‘collects’ all kinds of trinkets as he shuffles around the house. Today I found my phone. Yesterday he found the car keys! Yikes 😲 At least he didn’t try to go out to the car. Other times it might be some thread, a package of cookies, a tie wrap, or some sort of tool.

    The “moving things” stage nearly did me in so I sympathize. I almost had to get a PO Box because he kept moving the mail. Throwing away all the tax documents I left on the stairs to go upstairs made me realize I had to change. That took a long time to fix so now NOTHING important is left where he might find it…. Except my phone with the alarm. Now how to fix that?

    JGreen, I’ve finally learned if I can’t find my keys or phone to check his pockets. It used to annoy me. But I’ve learned from all of you here.

    Maru, The extra work is frustrating. I’ve finally learned to run the dishwasher without a full load or just do them by hand, because he kept “helping” by unloading the dishwasher even when the dishes were dirty. A clean /dirty sign used to work, but no longer. I frequently wonder why my DH does something, wondering what exactly his thought process was. Like turning off the alarm but not waking me…thinking why didn’t he wake m? I think he didn’t even know what the sound was for. But I am continually surprised by this disease. Like this morning.
