Pop Part 2
Things are progressing rapidly. He is getting aggressive with home health and acting out. Nothing physical, just being ugly and wanting them to leave. I have a VA appt to discuss medications for sleep, depression, anxiety and calmness. Any of you have this? If so, how did you manage?

Uggh! Yes. Only she wanted me out. We did let her doc know, and the meds for agitation and aggression did help a lot. She was already on a mild anti-depressive prior to some of it.
Hope your appt is soon!

This is overwhelming. His second caregiver is there for the evening and he is doing it to her now.

Have you tried phrasing it that he is helping her? "She needs some hours for certification" or "she needs a little extra time this month from her employer for expenses"

Yes we have. He ran off his caretaker from yesterday afternoon. I had to leave work and take my husband back to discuss with him. My husband was quite stern with him explaining that he cannot be ugly and run his caretakers off. We explained that we want him home with us (He lives in a tiny house in our backyard) and in order for that to happen, we had to have caretakers. We live in a rural area, getting caretakers is difficult. If we didn't have caretakers, we would need to look into a retirement home. I hated to even say this but its true. I wanted to avoid this conversation all together but it needed to be said. He understood my husband clearly. How long will it stick? I do not know. Bless him, this is such an awful disease. We reinforced many times we wanted him with us, in his home, with his kitty and had no intention of putting him somewhere but he could not be ugly to his care takers. I told him I loved him and have been working very hard to get help so he could stay home with us. He was more lucid than I thought he would be. I pray to our Lord that it stuck somewhere in his mind.

You may need to keep telling him the same thing every time he acts out until you can get him to the VA. You are probably already aware that his behavior could also be due to pain, an infection, or some unmet need that he's unable to express. He could also be experiencing Atypical Depression, which can look a lot like anger, agitation, annoyance, or aggression in people with dementia. I just learned about this recently and it helped explain my LO's aggressive behavior.
