Newly Diagnosed MCI with underlying Alzheimer's Pathology
Looking for other people who have very recently been diagnosed and are early in their Alz journey. In addition to first line therapies such as the new Anti Amyloid drugs, what else are people doing to stave off further cognitive decline aside from working out and challenging their brains. The two most promising things I have come across appear to be supplementing with 5mg of Lithium Orotate and the cholesterol lowering drugs Ezetimide (Zetia). In a retrospective study, people who were taking Zetia for lowering cholesterol, were 86% less likely to developed Alzheimer's related dementias. Has anyone been taking these and if so has anyone seen any improvement in their beta amyloid biomarkers or Ptau biomarkers; or experienced any measurable cognitive improvement? This is all very new stuff because the Zetia connection was only discovered in 2024 and the Lithium Orotate potential described in 2025. Both of these have the potential to be game changing because they address very fundamental Alz disease pathways and because the information is so new there is little to no track record in humans.

I havent even been able to land with a nuerologist yet, though I have heard from a couple of them over the last few days whose support staff are evaluating my medical data for possible 'elegibility. They indicate the eval is 6weeks out and if 'approved, I can then make an appointment that will also be further weeks/months out. In the mean time, like you, I have been searching, but am now feeling less confident that I will 'qualify' for the treatments I have read about due to my preexisting conditions and health issues. I had not come across the two you mentioned and looked on the internet. I am not a fan of over the counter drugs that are not FDA approved, but were I already take a statin, I might be ok with Zetia. Will check them out further first and I see the family doctor at the end of the month so I might see if he has any input. Thanks for the post.

I am not sure if you live in a small city or in a metropolis area. If possible inquire for a neurologist in a different city and hopefully appointments are more readily available. Please don't give up on seeking the medical care you need.

Hi drock57,
I remember it was all a bit overwhelming when I first heard of my diagnosis. Hope some of this info is helpful.
(I apologize in advance for the long post)
I asked "the google" the following question…
"are there agencies throughout the US that assist with helping a person with Alzheimer's get treatment for free and help them get help asap" and found the following:

In my journey with AD, I have learned to separate studies using mice with studies involving real live human beings. You mention Lithium Orotate, that has been only tested in mice. Despite the hype you can easily find on the internet, Lithium Orotate has not yet been tested in humans.
I would recommend visiting the Alzheimer's Association webpage titled "Treatments for Alzheimer's" (link below). Their experts helped develop this comprehensive list of treatment options.1 -
Thanks for the responses everyone. I have already submitted my records to more than one nuerologist to try to increase my chances of getting into one. I went ahead and called the ALZ Assoc and they basically said the same thing … that it takes time. I'll start going through all those websites and see what else I can learn.
Thanks again, I really appreciate the info.

I was just diagnosed with MCI due to Alzheimer's pathogen. My doctor recommended me to the Shah Memory Center at Broadlawns in DesMoines IA. They needed a written referral from the doctor outlining my ptau and SLUMS data. The receptionist said they would contact me in 4-6 weeks. The contacted me 2 weeks later. They can't get me in until November, but I feel better knowing I'm on their radar. I believe they will be checking to see if the new drugs Leqembi or Kisunla will be helpful to me. The two things my PC stressed to me that I get enough quality sleep and I strictly follow the MIND diet. She gave me pamphlets on sleep hygiene and the diet details. You can probably google either one. I also gave up my cherished Diet Coke, as the aspartame is very bad. If you haven't taken the Unlocking Brain Fitness: KEYS to Dementia Prevention (often simply called the KEYS Program) course, check with your local hospital or elder center. I hope this helps
