Full Time Social Worker/Caregiver

Hello,

Our neuro office sent over a RX for a Full Time Social Worker/Caregiver for my MIL. It states at her residence and diagnosis-g30-Alzheimers. They didn't however, explain what next steps are. Does this mean they are suggesting full time care for her? Do I start now with her Insurance? How does one find a good social worker? MIL has Anosognosia so doesnt think anything is wrong with her so this will be very challenging, she will not like people in her home.

You should check with the neurologist office for clarification. It does sound like they are suggesting the full-time care for MIL.

For her - you could try to 'flip the script' and tell MIL that the person is there to be helped. 'The person needs extra hours for their kids', or 'they need some more hours to build for their certification'.

Agree that you should ask physician's office but also they do seem to be indicating it is necessary. Caregiving would not be covered by Medicare with the exception of some skilled nursing after a hospital stay. At a geriatric doctor or dementia clinic (teaching hospital), there may be social workers on staff to support your situation but you would need to be a formal patient.
