My DW resists me changing her soiled Depends
My DW is in her Depends 24/7. She soils them with urine more than going to the toilet. If the Depends are full she resists me trying to change her. It's very frustrating. Has anyone else experienced this? On some days, she's fine with me changing her. On other days it's complete resistance.
Sorry to be gross about this. It's very frustrating.

This is one of the main reasons why my wife is in a memory care now. Most of the time, I could not change her without a fight. It was not so much removing the diaper, although that was still difficult at times, it was the cleanup afterwards, especially if she had pooped.
At the memory center, she still puts up a fight with the caretakers to change her diaper. There is, however, one caretaker that can usually change her easily much of the time.
At the memory center I found it's definitely a two-person job to change the diapers of somebody that does not want them chain. One person stands in front of the person and hold her hands. The other one gets behind her and does the actual change in.

Maybe you already do this but try preempting it by taking her throughout the day before she soils the brief. Also sometimes less is more. If you’re trying to give a lot of directions maybe try a quieter and more soothing approach. I just say ‘it’s ok’ a lot while I go about the business of changing and cleaning.

We are working on final steps getting MIL into memory care. And yes, we are experiencing the same. One thing we have found to be helpful is that first thing in the morning… 'Change your underwear and then we can get breakfast'. So, basically, some bribery.
Getting MIL to change her adult underwear through the day is also a challenge. Sometimes she still goes on her own, but when she doesn't, again with bribery. Change your underwear and we can have a cookie, or lunch, depending on time, of course. And we purposely say 'we', so it doesn't sound like it is quite a bribe, but rather that it is just a matter of fact 'time to change' but also 'time for something else, for all of us'.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I have found that it depends on the timing. If my DW is fully alert there is more resistance. When my DW is more relaxed later in the day it seems to go better. I have tried the "bribery" technique and that does work to a degree. It's a tough go but I have this until 10/5/2026 when I place my DW into memory care. It wasn't an easy decision but I'm so mentally and physically exhausted. My DW will only be 20 minutes away so that's good. As @blacksparky says, I hate this disease!

Have you tried the depends that open on the side instead of the regular pull up kind? Maybe that would be easier than taking shoes/pants off if she is resisting.

@Jeff H - I don't think you'll find anyone here that disagrees with the fact that we also HATE 'this'.
and yes - before MIL is fully alert in the morning, we can usually get more cooperation. A place opened up for us on Oct 5 as well. Only 15 minutes away. I find I don't feel bad, because I know that we did as much as we could for as long as we could.
