Is this a symptom of ALZ/Dementia

DH with EOAD/FTD told me last night that five times in the last few weeks that when he wakes up in the morning he said he felt like he was dying. He wants to go to his cardiologist and get checked out…which there is nothing wrong in doing this. Could this be due to his dementia? Almost like a hallucination? But, I was wondering if anyone has experienced something similar with their LO.

A feeling that one is dying can be a symptom of a heart attack. I don't know if it is a symptom of dementia or not. My wife never reported that.

No my DH has not experienced this symptom. I would let him see the cardiologist.

@Momx3 my DW has not experienced this symptom. I have spoken with another caregiver whose father with AD did have that symptom enough for emergency room visits and ambulance rides. I'm not sure what he did about it if anything. I would err on the side of caution myself, you never know if or when it's real. It could be some kind of anxiety reaction that might be controlled with meds. I would make sure the Cardiologist knows of the EOAD/FTD diagnosis. Hopefully the DR. will give you better advice than mine. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the advice…he did see his PCP yesterday who said she thinks his heart is fine…might be anxiety. I have him scheduled with his cardiologist on 10/28.

My sister experienced this. She also had early onset, and FTD. One night shortly after she was diagnosed, she called me in a panic. She thought she was having a heart attack. We got her to the emergency room, and like your DH, her heart was just fine. No evidence of anything wrong.

I can well imagine that it might be anxiety. Or, maybe it's something to do with FTD? FTD is a different beast than Alzheimer's.

Do not underestimate the sense of premonition. My mother had it, my Dad experienced it, and now my sister is experiencing it. It’s very real.
