Testing for memory loss
My DH had his annual memory testing and it had declined from 20 to 13. I don’t know the name of the test given but it is quite extensive. The perfect score is 30. His doctor said with a score that low, they stop the annual testing. He will now just go for checkups. He was diagnosed about 8 years ago and had not declined a lot until this year. He is in perfect physical condition, so I don’t know how much longer this journey will last. It’s very hard being solely responsible for him.

my husband held his own with limited changes over quite a few years. Then bam! He’s sliding quickly into pronounced dementia. He is 82 and also has COPD. I hope that takes him sooner.

sorry. Yes, to get those results from the cognitive tests can be depressing. It’s a test our loved ones can’t study for and sadly, we can see day to day, the decline. It’s like the physical body of my husband is present but the mind is that of someone I’ve not known. Sorry that you’re going through this. Hang in there.

”It is very hard being solely responsible for him.” Exhausting isn’t it? I feel the same.

MOCA test. My DW went from 28 to 22 to 20 over the last 9 months.

We were in the DR. office and he gave the test, asked what day of the week it was, she said Wednesday ( that was right) . I sat there with my mouth open, thinking that is the first time in 6 months she got the day of the week right.

My husband went from 22 on the MOCA test in 2024 to 11 at his appt in July. He’s also in very good physical shape so most people that meet him think he is fine. I’m so sorry you are going through this too.

My mother was tested more frequently than annually. Sometimes she would score a bit lower then it would go up at the next appt. Sometimes a major change can cause a temporary decline. Sometimes a medical reason (UTI, etc.) can cause a temporary decline. Sometimes it is progression. Do you think the score is in line with what you have been seeing or there may be another reason?
