edited October 17 in Caring for a Parent

Truth is, I never left. I was here for support helping care for my dh, who died in May. Now I see my dad's provider has documented Alzheimer's in his record (not a surprise at this point). Over the past several months I've taken over his checking account, although he still goes and withdraws cash which is ok. He has a housemate (new) who is largely overseeing the day-to-day, and I'm quitting my full-time job in January.

He crashed his car—the police report faults the other driver, but of course I wonder. Still, it gets driving off the table. Now I've gotten into his email so I can monitor for scams. I deleted about 500 "offers."

Legals are in order. The other POA is on board. It's about as good as it gets. :-)

I’m sorry that you are dealing with a second person with dementia. The only good thing is that you have a clue what to do, what not to do etc. You must be frustrated at having to do this all over again.

It's different with a parent vs a spouse. Still, the siblings are all on board and no one is actively undermining.

Good to have a housemate—do ensure you are comfortable with this individual.
