Hi Cricket - welcome to 'here', but sorry for the reason. I take it you've become a caregiver?

First thing is to get paperwork in order. DPOA and HIPAA accesses. If needed, consult with a CLEC (elder-care specialty lawyer).

Most of us on the forum go by a 7-stage DBAT. A lot of doctors go by a 3-stage model. Most of us find that the DBAT is way more helpful. DBAT: https://us.v-cdn.net/6037576/uploads/B0XGDF5TALMA/dbat-287-29-281-29.pdf

Come by to vent or ask. Somebody here has most likely been-there-done-that and can help or empathize.

Sorry you are here with us. This forum is a great resource and encouragement!
My husband was diagnosed this summer with MCI. It’s like being in the black hole. There’s something off with some of his cognitive abilities but we do not have a why or what it is. He’s had blood work, MRI, EEG. All show scar tissue on the frontal lobe but no one has said he has AD or any other type of dementia. Meanwhile, I see him losing words, inability to function with simple things and I’m at a loss. I’m a fixer and I can’t fix this.
My advice in addition to the legal and financial issues but be your Mom’s advocate and press on for answers and care.

Welcome. My advice is learn all you can. It will help. There were so many terms I learned here that I had never heard before. It helped me to put a name to the symptoms and to realize others have similar issues with their loved ones. I will add a few links that might be helpful.
One of the most important things to do in the beginning is see a lawyer. Someone needs a DPOA and finance’s should be looked at to consider if Medicaid may be necessary. Don’t wait! It stinks taking their independence away, but remember that their safety should be the number one priority. Unfortunately even above making them happy.
