Medical Aid in Dying Dovumentary

"When My Time Comes" is a 60 minute PBS documentary that airs on my affiliate tonight (check your PBS station(s) for air dates/times).

"Retired NPR radio host Diane Rehm visits with medical experts, religious leaders, and others to learn about Medical Aid in Dying and options for the terminally I'll and their families."

    I am friends with Diane and you can bet it will include something about dementia. That is what started her on that mission because of her husband.

    Unfortunately, there is no place in the US that will allow assistance to die for a patient with dementia, even if they have indicated, when they were of sound mind, that they want it at a certain point of their disease.

    I looked into it in depth while my mother was sick.  Also there is no ‘legal’ way to prevent hand feeding of a patient that can no longer feed themselves, even if they have indicated they do not want that either.

    Hopefully our society will evolve to the point that allows the individual to choose how they want to die.  Right now, you must live in certain states + it is highly regulated.   

    To be able to choose when you die should be a right.
