New member living in the US; my mom diagnosed is in India

Dear community,

My mother (77 years old) was diagnosed with early stages of Alzheimer's-type dementia in March 2021.  She lives with my father (81 years old) in Gurgaon, India.  My sisters and I live outside of India.  I live near Washington DC.  Is there anyone else in the community in this situation - living abroad from an affected loved one?  I would love to connect and learn more since this is so new to me.

Thanks, Rohini

Rohini,  I live 5 hours away from my LO.  It's very hard to manage her needs from afar when what I really want is to be there to make things better right away.  Find an online support group that meets virtually weekly.  This has been so helpful for me.  There is an Indian version of ALZ.org.  Google alzheimers India support.  There is also an international site called "silvertalkies" that might work for you.

Hello Rohini and welcome.   I can only imagine how difficult and concerning this must be.  I would like to invite you to contact the Alzheimer's Assn. 24 Hour Helpline at (800) 272-3900.   If you call, ask to be transferred to a Care Consultant.   There are no fees for this service. Consultants are highly educated Social Workers who specialize in demenia and famil dynamics.  They can be very helpful and may have some good information and suggestions for you.

Do let us know how you are, how things are going, we are all here in support of one another and that now includes you too.
