Well, just to update... my FIL did recover and lived another month after this post. He responded to antibiotics and it cleared up the pneumonia.
However, he stopped eating and drinking this past weekend. He has refused liquids since Sunday morning. He is showing all the signs of everything shutting down now. So very hard to watch.

My FIL passed at 2 am. The last 24 hours were very peaceful for him and he appeared comfortable. His other son and family came in to say goodbye earlier.
I am sure this will all hit me tomorrow. I already feel a little out of sorts after five years of his being here and caring for him (minus 9 months of memory care, but you still manage the care and visit several times a week). We’ve seen him go through every stage.
He kissed my hand and chuckled at something funny my husband said not even a week ago.
I know he’s in a better place, but I sure will miss him. *tears*

May flower, can you just hear God saying I have a fighter on my team! I mean no disrespect, but your FIL has been a great fighter. My prayers are with you and your family. Please take some time for yourself now, that’s probably what he would want for you. I still smile at him kissing your hand, what a gentleman! Peace and comfort to all your family.0
