How to find Mom's birth certificate and divorce decree
As part of the Medicaid application according to the Elder Law attorney we need a copy of Mom's birth certificate and divorce decree. I can't find them in the house.
She does not remember exactly where she was born but thinks it was either New Jersey (most likely), New York, or Connecticut. For New Jersey they require that you know the county, but we don't. Further, their Archives office says it takes at least 4-8 weeks in the best of cases and in the meantime can't confirm anything.
My Mom was apparently married for a few years (not to my father). She does not know where, when, or anything. We at least think we have his name.
Is there a genealogist or someone we can hire to help us find the information out and possibly do the legwork for us?
