61 and diagnosed with dementia and early onset Alzheimer’s

Hi, I moved in with my mother in law a couple months ago because she has been really struggling with her memory. Today we got the diagnosis of dementia and early onset of Alzheimer’s. I am looking for Any advice for me to help get us on a manager track so I can take the best care of her!! Thank you in advance!!

    Hi Jaimilp, I am so sorry to hear about your mother in law. My mother was also diagnosed with Alz a few years ago.

    I agree with JeriLynn that the AA hotline is a wonderful resource. Many folks here would also suggest that you get all of your legal affairs in order - POAs, wills/trusts, etc.

    Early on, I connected with my local Alzheimer’s Assn branch. They offer caregiver trainings, workshops, support groups, local resources, etc. I attended quite a few of their offerings and they were so helpful. I was also able to connect with local caregivers so that I didn’t feel so alone. If that is a resource that is available to you, I hope you can connect with them. The Family Caregiver Alliance website also has some good info.

    There is a great handout circulating here with info on the various of stages of dementia by Tam Cummings. I will look for it and send you a link.
