A real conversation between MIL and DH
The movie Yours, Mine and Ours is blaring in the background. MIL is very hard of hearing so everything is always at 90% volume.
**********
DH: I want you to try this cookie. It’s not too sweet.
MIL: (suspiciously) What is it?
DH: it’s a cookie.
MIL: What?
DH: A COO-KEY
MIL: What’s a COO-KEY?
DH: You know what a cookie is!
MIL: (shaking her head) No
DH: YES YOU DO. A cookie. Like a chocolate chip cookie. Like an Oreo.
MIL: (completely bewildered) No.
DH: You don’t know what a chocolate chip cookie is?
MIL: Noooooooo
DH: (clutching his head in desperation) Do you know what an Oreo is?
MIL: Yes!
DH: (Cautiously hopeful) What is an Oreo?!
MIL: A cookie
DH: SEE! You do know what a cookie is!
MIL: I thought you were saying chicken!
DH leaves the room muttering that he’s being gaslit.
I’m chortling helplessly - face in hands.

In the middle stages, dad would aggressively set the volume to blast to annoy my mom. This is not conjecture, he told me this.
We got him these and put brakes on the TV volume. Just a thought.

Oooh wow - you just made my day!
We also have issues with the volume, but that takes the cake, er, I mean, the cookie…

A few summers ago, my wife came in from the yard and started this conversation:
I can't find him.
Who can't you find.
Your husband
My husband?
Yes, your husband.
I'm not gay.
You're not?
I still laugh over it.

Oh, the conversations…..It is good to be light hearted when possible.
Go online and get some bluetooth earphone for everyones sanity. They really work.

DH is also hard of hearing. So, I’m in the minority. I wear buds!

I'm so happy to see this. Here was our conversation (abbreviated) tonight. Background, we had a brief case in the car with some files and I needed to send a picture of something to the guy who was doing some work for us. My DH didn't want to take the case out of the car so it was there for the morning. I explained I needed it for a few minutes and then we could put it back as soon as I was finished.
Me: I am all set, I need you to put this bag in the car so we don't forget it tomorrow.
Him: But I thought we were keeping it here for the weekend (today is Tuesday)
Me: Nope, we need it tomorrow in the morning.
Him: I'll put it in the laundry room
Me: You know what? I'll put it in the car now
Him: I'll do it. Huffing and puffing, he leaves with the bag
Me: Did you put it in the car?
Him: Did I put what in the car?
Me: The bag
Him: Yes, but you can check if you don't believe me
Me: Let's go look
Guess what - it was in the laundry room
Me: I'll put it in the car
He watches me put it in the trunk
Him: Wait a minute - let me see if it is there.
Me: I think it's time for dinner!!!!!!!
some days I just feel like we talk in circles around her.
