mini moments and self talk / inner dialog
Hi community,
I am reminding myself that Alzheimer's is what has changed dad's living situation and opportunity for more freedom. It's Alzheimer's that he's actually upset about. That anger and frustration just gets pointed at me.
Alzheimer's is why he didn't realize the help he needed. It's also why he couldn't organize plans for himself.
Does anyone have other little sayings or thoughts you use to get you through the days and nights? I continue to struggle. I know I am not alone.
I'd love hear your reassurances you say over and over to yourselves when you have a moment to share them with me.
Take care,
Many thanks,
jen 💜

Learned from another situation, but I use:
It's a disease, not a personality defect.

You couldn't walk on a broken leg. She can't reason with a broken brain.

Hi, I always tell myself, "It's the disease, don't take it personally."

My mom constantly complains about living in FL (had to move her from VA , which she also complained about) so now I tell myself it’s not her geographic state but her state of mind.
I also had a moment many months ago where I found one very perfect shell then shortly found one with missing area, I keep those as a visual reminder that my moms brain is the latter shell.
I often call her Ms Dementia when she’s really on a roll.

So true. I am a slow learner in this one, but working on it. Thank you!

Loving some of these...
DH and I often use 'Cat'. To remind each other 'can't reason with a cat' because sometimes we actually find ourselves trying to reason, even though we know better. Or sometimes will simply ask 'have you seen the cat?'
We often remind each other just that She can't help it, this isn't her.
No, it sure isn't.
