Looking for Live-In Care Resources

Hello. I am new to this group. I didn't know this even existed until just today, and I'm so thankful to have found this page.

My mom was diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment back in 2016. Slowly she has been progressing, and things have taken a turn pretty quickly this past month.

I am navigating live-in care vs full time in-home care. I am leaning towards live-in, as this will be 1 person vs multiple caregivers that she may be confused by.

Does anyone have any recommendations about where I should look to find someone who is able / wants to do this?

We are in the Austin area. Thank you so much

Hi and welcome. I am sorry for your reason to be here but pleased you found this place.

Finding a good live-in caregiver, I'm told by my former neighbor who had one for his first wife with MS and his second MIL with dementia, is best done word-of-mouth. Ask everyone you know. His first wife found someone via a member of her MS support group who was moving into an AL. His second found her mom's caregiver through a work contact whose mom had recently passed. Related to that, some folks recommend stalking obituaries for those that thank a caregiver by name.

Care.com is another option, but you'll need to do more vetting typically.

Oh thank you so so much, HB. I was thinking word of mouth would be the best bet, but had never thought to look in the obituaries. I will try that as well as reach out through my neighborhood facebook community, and I am in healthcare, so I will also see if I can have a supervisor post something for the entire hospital.

Thank you. I am very happy to have found this community.
