Good morning. It's cold here. And I'm up too early.

David— that sounds like a lovely outing. Did you go to Kowloon for your Chinese meal? My mom's family used to frequent it back in the day, I've been a couple of times as a kid. Quite a place as I recall.

Iris— I'm glad you had a better outcome for your Simon. I agree on the value of a nebulizer when needed.

Carl— Get the robe and the sweater. You deserve it.

I'm glad you're enjoying the Christmas specials. LOL on the Run DMC lyrics. One of those tracks was featured on A Very Special Christmas— "Christmas in Hollis"— and DH used to play it in the car when driving a pompous coworker to lunch before they both retired just to get a rise out of him. It never failed.

Mom and kitty seem on the mend. My "little sister", aka the cat, scarfed down her meds/recovery diet mix when I stopped by. Mom had had another Amazon delivery, so I was able to grab that. Her neighbor had a delivery when I did my AM visit. I knocked on the door to let her know mom was in the hospital as they look out for one another, but she didn't answer. She often walks to the store in the morning as a routine. When I saw mom on the way home, she said the neighbor was visiting her daughter for a couple days, so I regret not securing it as it was gone last night. I hope her local granddaughter stopped by to take care of it.

Mom mentioned her Trelegy inhaler being linked to an increased risk of infection. Evidently a hospitalist told her this. This line of reasoning is a concern. Mom gets into trouble when she thinks. I explained that any steroid is going to lower her resistance to infection, but the risk benefit ratio for her favored taking it as prescribed. She's been non-compliant around other prescriptions because of "feelings" and misinformation, so I'll need to be vigilant about this. Last time it was her statin and before that her Fosamax.

Niece was texting me last night while talking to mom on the phone. She said mom thought she'd be discharged today. I guess we'll see. Her bloodwork looks worse than on admission but is mostly attributed to powerful antibiotics and infection. Discharge today would work for me but I'm not sure it's in her best interest.

I hope all have a pleasant day.

Afternoon, I really slept in this morning. Not sleeping but staying in the warm bed watching TV and talking with Darwin and Carol.

HB and Mint, glad your mothers are doing better. Mint, how sweet that the little ladies care watching out for each other. I know that makes you feel better, too.

Carl, do get the sweater and jacket and slippers even if you don't need them. I usually but something for myself for CHRistmas, too. Last year Sydney, the girl who works with Mike gave me a beautiful throw and a mug with a picture of a cow on it, first present I had had since Sarah sent me a gift a few years ago. Carl, those fleece PJs are uber warm, almost too warm to sleep in.

OK, sweater and robe it is. And a new pair of slides, which I wear with sox instead of slippers. Thank you for the support.

I love Chinese food. 50 years ago, we frequented the House of Toy on the Plaza in Kansas City and it was terrific. They had really good barbeque ribs as appetizers. My son, who was about four years old, loved them and loved KC style BBQ ribs as well. So, when we took him to an Italian restaurant for the first time, he asked "Are there Italian ribs?" No, ribs are not part of the Mediterranean diet, but it was a reasonable question.

DW has been taking turmeric capsules at night, and it has really helped her gastric reflux. She also has been complaining much less of pain from her arthritic knee and is walking more. Consumer Reports came today, and it says there is evidence turmeric helps osteoarthritis pain as much or more than OTC pain relievers. So, two birds with one stone. I'm going to start taking turmeric myself. My old joints can use some relief. and a new sweater.

I gave my grandfather a couple of sweaters for Christmas, but my mother told me it wasn't a good idea because he had decided they were "too good" to wear on the farm. So, I found other gifts in subsequent years. Sure enough, when he died Mom found the sweaters neatly folded in a drawer, never worn. I wear mine.

Lorita, I sleep in a fleece jacket sometimes, with only a sheet except from the waist down. It's kind of a comfort, similar to a weighted blanket. It's raining and thundering outside right now. I think I'll get a fleece jacket and go back to bed.

    Good early morning to y'all.

Been up since 1 am. Went to bed at 8 p. Spent the whole day in the car yesterday. Cooked first thing, loaded the car, To Scottsboro to deliver and visit BIL. To TJ Maxx for candy, Publix for a Christmas dinner on the 22nd. Tractor Supply for worms (chicken treats) and dog food. Parts store in another town for a starter for the backhoe and finally home at 4pm. Then to visit with my Aunt and Cousin at dinnertime (for them - they eat around 5pm). Then back home to PJs and snoring in my chair and off to bed, lol.

My compulsively "must get this done" brain woke me up so; I've made my to do list for today and scanned the calendar for next week's "must do" and made that list by day, done the mail and made that pile, found a recipe for the stuffed mushrooms that granddaughter loves, opened Amazon packages and about to start the sort and wrap presents marathon Until: we have a Christmas Band Parade in Huntland at 1pm. UNLESS:

B the goat goes into active labor. She's looking like she's getting ready.

    So, what y'all doing today?

Morning, I'm here. and okay, Iris. Didn't realize I didn't post last evening. Thank you for missing me.

Been watching the morning cooking shows. They made Babka on one of them. Too involved for me so guess I will stick to chocolate marbled brioche from WM which is really good. Mint, have you ever made brioch?

We had rain overnight, too, Carl. Didn't wake me . I see big puddles outside but haven't gone out to check the rain gauge.

JeriLynn, do the goats have trouble birthing often? On Dr. Pol I have seen them pull the babies, much easier than pulling a big calf but anxiety riden, too.

I was worried yesterday because they hadn't fed the girls so about 6 pm I heard them bawling, looked and they were feeding so was relieved. Guess I'll never get over worrying about them. All of us slept through the night until about 6 so had a good night's sleep. I think everyone else is asleep now.

Good for you, Carl. Get those things and wear them. Born To Be Wild was always one of my favorite songs by Steppenwolf, also liked Three Dig Night.Last night I had a Three Cat Night with Max, Lilly and Sammy in the bed with me. Sounds like we liked the same kind of music. Did you like the Beatles? When I was about 22 I had a modified Beatles haircut.. Still llke their music.

Turmeric - maybe I should look into that. Nice and sunny now so guess it will be a good day. Enjoy! Beth, are you all having ice? Saw that Iowa was going to have an icestorm. Hate those!

Happy Saturday y'all. Sunny beautiful blue skies here today.

I took us out last night for a surprise, to DH, light show. I almost hesitated at the price of the tickets, then I figured how much he'd enjoy it. I'm so glad that we went. It was one you drive through, but your at timed intervals so its not bumper to bumper. Heck we were almost through before we saw another car. DH loved it, and couldn't stop thanking me for taking him. (He's always been such a sweet guy.) We looked at the lights, he sang the songs on the radio and what a wonderful night. I'm trying to make memories and help him keep memories. It took about 25 minutes to get through the entire thing. Price of the tickets was nothing compared to how happy he was.

Today I need to put one small strand of lights inside my porch. When I had the house painted they took them down and I forgot to have them put them back up. Since its such a nice day I think I'll fire up the smoker and toss several chickens on to have on hand. Probably make a batch of veggies and put out there also, good eating for later.

How everyone has a fabulous day. Let's be safe.

Hello everyone. Last evening we had two other couples over for our (annual) Christmas gathering together. We had such a good time visiting and eating good food and exchanging gifts. They had to leave a bit early (7:30 or so) due to predictions of freezing rain coming. They got home safely and when I went to bed at 11, no ice but there had been a little rain. When I got up this morning, streets/driveways/sidewalks/trees were a glaze of ice. They still are at 12:40 pm, but it's warmed to above freezing so should be gone in a bit. Tonight we watch the grandkids while the parents go to a Christmas party for her work. In the meantime, relaxing. We cooked and cleaned like crazy yesterday so we deserve a rest! lol

Eagle, sounds like it was a nice surprise for your husband and a good time for you. We used to drive through The Garden of Lights in Honor Heights Park. So pretty - no lights out here.

Beth, glad your ice has melted and.hope you don't get more.

It is a most beautiful day here- 62 degtees, calm and full sunshine. I even turned off the propane stove. Did a load of laundry, dried them and put them away, did dishes, shampooed my hair and got the trash together to take down. Cats are asleep and GPs are outside in the sun. With the binoculars saw the cow I've been watching. Most of them are resting in the sun and enjoying the day. We had half an inch of rain last night which is enough for now.

The rodeo last night was really good. I think tonight is the last night. The bull fighters are fantastic

Tis like visiting distant family members when coming here. So close to Christmas, and for the first time I do not feel the holiday whatsoever. I have always been the Christmas organizer and doer and cheer leader for the family holidays, but now that is over as I no longer have the sustained energy to do that and most of extended family are now out of state.

Sometimes I almost feel a bit down about the lack of holiday-ness, but came to the understanding that I/we have had many years of truly MARVELOUS Christmas holidays; such a gift - warm and loved blessings with many dear memories. I am no longer able to put a holiday together even if it is only for me and my beloved DH. My oomph has gone somewhere - if you should find it, could you please let me know you have it and I will send for it special delivery. I have physically lost much of myself and am emotionally tempered by knowing my intellect is intact which is precious considering what we discuss here.

By now, I would have had the house decorated, the tree up and decorated, the front porch and doors holiday-ed, cookies baked, presents bought and mostly wrapped by now. Having family members in for special holiday time; evening out riding to see the beautiful decorations on some houses and entire blocks; the memories of all of that and more are some of the dearest blessings that I treasure. Not feeling a bit down because we no longer have that; instead, I feel deeply blessed and so grateful for all the memories especially of family gathered and the warmth of it all. That is so dear to my heart.

No tree this year, no gift wrapping this year, no cookies baked this year, so many family members gone; I think that those days may no longer be in my realm and I have no one to pick up the slack for us on that, SO . . . I will remember all the years we had all of that and how dear those times have been. Life is good and the memories absolutely priceless.

Whoops - DH doing dinner tonight and I have just been told I have fifteen minutes . . . . warm wishes and soft hugs being sent to one and all . . .

    J.

Hi Jo, so happy to see your post. We have missed you. Sorry things aren't going better for you. Hopefully next year will bring better times.

Talked this afternoon with my BIL. Such a nice guy- he's 94 and lives by himself but has two daughters who live in the same town and they keep watch on him. He has been living up to our pact about wearing his medical alert pendant ,- I need to do better. Hope everyone is well tonight.

The Rodeo is about to come on so I'll stop for today. Good night., sleep tight.

All I know about Turmeric is it smells like curry, because it is a popular spice in south Asian cooking.

Consumer Reports said turmeric relieved osteoarthritic pain in a review of ten studies published in the British Medical Journal, but we don't yet know the optimal dosage.

I buy turmeric 500 mg capsules at the drug store and give her one a day. It helps her gastric reflux more than the prescription medicine, and the Rx causes such severe side effects that it can be taken only one month a year. The only time she gets reflux now is when she eats something really high in fat and chocolate, like chocolate cake with icing made of butter and sugar and cocoa. She also has degenerative arthritis in one knee, characterized by X-ray changes and heat. She used a cane for a couple of years to take some weight off that leg. Since starting turmeric, she is walking more and no longer uses the cane. She has many complaints, but she hasn't mentioned the knee in weeks. Now that I think of it, she hasn't used the arthritis pain cream in weeks either.

Beth, thank you for the information about turmeric. DWs internist knows she takes turmeric and has no problem with it. I'll check with my doctor before I start taking it. I know some herbs interact with some medications.

Speaking of turmeric, I think DW is having less inflammation in the brain on this regimen. She has had headaches and hot flashes since her first covid vaccination, a side effect that is rare but happens. I think the anti-inflammatory effect of turmeric (actually its active ingredient curcumin) may be helping her there too.

DW takes warfarin, and turmeric can affect that by thinning the blood. Consistency is important here. She takes turmeric daily and eats salad daily, so her warfarin dosage is adjusted for that regimen. It would probably be better if she ate food seasoned with turmeric, or drank turmeric tea, but she won't, so we do the best we can.

    Good morning,

I have two crockpots full of Mississippi Pot Roast fired up and a peach pie in the oven ( I cheated, it's storebought frozen and I have some storebought whipped cream or ice cream to top it). I'll set the Coconut Cream on the counter before we leave for church so it can thaw. Feeding DH's granddaughter, husband and 3 teenagers today after church.

Jo, I'm glad to see your post and for all the happy memories you have created over the years. Just think of all the people who fondly remember your loving efforts.

Turmeric!! I make a mixture of various herbs and spices to feed to my chickens a couple times each month. Sprinkled over something like mashed potatoes (they LOVE mashed potatoes). Supposed to reduce inflammation and promote respiratory health. Frick the red chicken with the funky headdress jumps up on the chair to see what is in the bowl I've brought each morning. She also follows me to see if I have anything more to offer. She is one crazy chicken.

Lorita, sometimes the goats have difficulty birthing. DH has had to pull a couple since I've been around. Goats, like cows, will hide their babies for a few days after birth. But Betty is in the smaller front pasture and has access to the barn stable if she chooses. So, if she kids while we are away, we'll be able to quickly find the babies. I just like to keep an eye out in case the Mama decides to not tend to her baby. That happens sometimes and then the baby needs to be bottle fed. I'm set up and ready this year.

Got a lot of wrapping done yesterday and got more packages from Amazon. Everything is grouped together by family so I can keep up with who's who and what's what. Everybody gets a money $ card and the children under 12 also get small gifts. I consult with the Mamas to coordinate/complement what Santa might be bringing. It's fun for me. Hopefully for them too.

HB, how's your Mama? Mint, what have you baked? Ron, we miss you and hope to hear from you soon. Sending hugs. David, sounds like you are on a Chinese binge! Beth, the party sounds lovely. Eagle, we used to have an Orthopedic Surgeon in our town that decorated his lovely home and lawn to the point there were traffic jams in their neighborhood! The local news covered it every year. He's gone now and I miss seeing the stories. Sounds like you and DH had a wonderful time. Carl, I think I win the prize for who got up first this morning, lol.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Good morning

Lorita I have never made brioche, never have eaten it either.

I did make a pan of pumpkin dinner rolls yesterday. Had pumpkin left over from making pumpkin roll. They turned out nice.

Eagle glad you and DH are Finding things you can do, and enjoy together.

JoC nice to hear from you. Time surely does change things. I think I’ve mentioned before on here holidays have never been the same since my dad died. I still in joy it but it’s in a different way like you. I am still able to enjoy baking. In fact, I may have baked too much. Too bad I don’t live close enough to bring you and DH a plate of cookies.

You are right Carl about we do have to be careful with herbs just like anything else. I’ve read so many good things about lemon balm. So I thought I would raise some and drink tea. Thankfully I came up on some thing about if you are on medicine for hypothyroidism, which I am, then it’s not a good thing. I was so thankful that I just accidentally came up on that and then I checked it out some more and it was true. So ever since then if I’m going to use something consistently like that I check into it. I do put turmeric in my soups sometimes.

JeriLynn you are right , many people have good memories of their times at JoC’s. That is something else for JoC to treasure. I hope to bake a strawberry cobbler today. Lunch sounds good. Maybe if there is leftovers you can set them out on the porch.

Hope to go see mom this afternoon. Tomorrow is closing on the house if all goes well.
    Take care

Morning. Forty degrees right now but to.be in mid sixties this afternoon. Back later. Just read all the early morning posts. I woke up at ,6 but didn't get up until almost ,8.

Called Carol to wish her a happy birthday, for the 63rd year. Can't believe she is 88. Her three girls are going to her Church with her this morning, then a family birthday party afterwards.

Watching morning news shows. Back later. Thanks again, Iris.

it's beautiful, David. Do they have Sunday morning Church Service st the Veterans Center? I imagine they have all kinds of activities for you all. Glad you are enjoying being there even if you had rather be home. Oklahoma used to have five State Veterans Homes but the one in Talihina closed a few years ago. Don't know if they have opened another one.

Eagle, been watching the Chiefs game off and on and just saw that Mahomes hurt his ankle. Another QB went in but Mahomes is walking so maybe it's not too bad.

Mint, they're playing in Cleveland and it showed they had some snow. Do you have any? I think you said you were between Cleveland and Columbus.

Iris, how are your fur babies today? All of mine are sound asleep. Wish I was but trying to get an order made to Chewy. I know I spend more on the cats and GP s than I do for my food But, that's okay.

It's 63 right now but cloudy and feels cold to me. My hip.hurts some today so must have slept on that side a lot last night. Always something to complain about.

Have to get my oil changed this week. Yesterday it told me it was time to get it done. Car is smarter than me. Guess I won't need to keep track of when to change it now, just let it remind me.
