What does Ptau 712 mean for Lecanemab?

Hello. My mother was diagnosed earlier this year with MCI and we just got to a neurologist last week. Her Ptau 712 came out at 1.7. I am having a hard time understanding this except that it is an "abnormal" score — but from what I can tell online it seems quite high. Can anyone offer any perspective here? Do people stop qualifying for Lecanemab at a certain point?

Her MoCA score was 18 if that is helpful. We have a PET scan and MRI scheduled.

As far as I know, Leqembi is intended for people with early-stage dementia. I've not heard of people in the moderate or late stages being approved, but it's still really early days for this drug.

The medication is intended to be used for up to 18 months, so at some point they would no longer be given the infusions.

I guess that the higher the PTAU score, the more of the TAU protein there is in the brain. It might be considered another way of distinguishing moderate dementia from mild dementia. I believe that the new medication has only been tested on mild dementia… and only slows it down for a few months.

Lecanemab doesn’t target Tau. It targets amyloid.
I was in the same boat as you when my wife got results back from her lumbar puncture. We received lab values but there seemed to be no range like lower and upper range. Just a number.
I think part of it is because using bio markers to diagnose MCI/AD is so new.
The original trial was for 18 months but there’s now 3 year data that support longer than 18 month use.
My wife gets infusions at Duke and we’re in a Leqembi support group. One of the Duke neurologists gave a presentation and it was recorded. I’ll share the recording when they release it.
