Ron, I'm sorry to hear about your PSA results. I had prostate CA myself and am still standing, and I'll pray you have a good result too.

Zetta, it's good to hear from you. Don't blame yourself for your cat getting out, they are quicker than we are and sometimes they get out no matter how hard we try.

David, you are a lucky man. IIRC you are $20 ahead. You may have a bundle by summer!

Mint, I don't have to google the blizzard of '78, I'll never forget it. We were transferring to Kansas City with two small children and checked into a hotel just as it started snowing. The weather guessers predicted 1-5" and we had 15" by midnight with the snow still falling!

North Carolina is really having a hard time. I have camped in tents in winter and enjoyed it, but I can't imagine living in one with a family. Sometimes people ask how I'm doing, and I reply I'm eating well and sleeping warm, and they look at me like I'm kidding. I'm not kidding. Even that minimal comfort isn't guaranteed in this world.

We are expecting an inch of snow Thursday night here in SW MO, without ice, so no big deal. Unless you live in a tent.

Iris, I see the grounds of the Getty Villa Museum are burning, although they say the artworks in the main structure are safe. I guess this is what we mean when we say something is "spreading like wildfire." I don't know how anyone could contain a fire when the wind is blowing at hurricane force, embers could fly for miles. I don't know where you live, but I hope the fire doesn't get anywhere near you.

Carl, I am about thirty miles from the fire. But embers are spreading from Pacific Palisades area eastward towards Pasadena. The Getty is at the top of a hill but it is surrounded by vulnerable trees, there are even deer in that area. Perhaps they have prepared an extensive fire-fighting system just for this eventuality.

Even farther away, trees have been uprooted onto the freeways, also freeway signs have become detached, there is so much large debris inhibiting traffic, from the wind. All of this freeway debris will impair people who are trying to evacuate. Even Pres Biden was stuck because Air Force One could not leave LAX due to air conditions. Power has been shut off in several areas so the houses and streets are dark.

It's after midnight, I'm still listening to the fire reports on the radio. The fire is over 1000 acres. This is the worst fire in this area!

Lorita, so far Mama Goldie is nursing all 3 babies. But we will keep a close watch and supplement with bottle feeding if we need to. I guess I worry most about the tiny one. But she seems strong and active. We'll watch.

Good morning. It's 12 here in SW MO. There are dozens of birds flocking around and on the ground under my neighbor's feeders, just trying to eat enough to stay warm.

We finally got DW out of her frilly summer blouses and into some sweaters. It took me, Jack Frost, Old Man Winter, and Winter Storm Blair, but we got it done.

    Good Morning

Lady Zetta- It's nice to hear from you although I wish things were going better for you at the moment. I am especially sorry to hear about your cat— so sad.

Lorita- My sensor for tire pressure alerts me with sudden temperature changes. Maybe that's what you're seeing. The dealer can fix you up if you can't remove the valve stem covers.

David- I'm glad your winning streak continues. That's some serious money.

Carl- Good on you getting your wife into sweaters. LOL, reminds me of my son when he was younger. Sensory issues made swapping short pants/sleeves and back again a PITA. As dad's dementia progressed, so many of his quirks reminded me of DS.

Ron- Am I recalling correctly that the prostate issue has been ongoing for a while? When dad's initial treatment led to an incomplete resolution, meds were tweaked, and he did very well. I hope the same for you.

It's cold today. I'm staying home and getting my last 2 trees down today. I think I'll even cook a real dinner at home. Tomorrow mom and her cat have appointments so today is my window.

    Be safe out there.
    HB

Dear Lady Zetta, I am so sorry to hear about all the issues you have been facing. At least you are with your daughter who can help. We all love our fur babies and it is distressing when one is gone. Unfortunately we cannot protect them from everything. Please let your heart be at peace over this. Wishing you a much better 2025.

HB, the prostate cancer was treated with radiation and 2 years of harmone therapy and for the past two years I've been cancer free. Since completing treatment my PSA has always been 0.0 and 0.1 on follow up. Yesterday my voice mail said it was 2.7 and she wanted me to come in next week to discuss it with me. I've had a call in to them this morning on when to come and now waiting for a response. I'm just tired..…to much happening!

    Ron

    Addum:

When it rain it pours! I just received a call from the VA and they want me to see a hematologist on Feburary 13th.

Good afternoon, porch people. I need to admit that I’ve been eavesdropping on y’all’s conversations for quite a while now.

I’ve been on the sidelines for a long time and, like so many others, have benefited enormously from the advice shared by this community of caregivers.

However, to me, the porch conversations seem more relaxed and less urgent.

Y’all seem like a friendly bunch. Just wanted to say hi! 👋

Morning, sunny this morning. Mike just called and said his truck said it was 19 a couple of hours ago but is 29 now. So, it is wsrming up. He's moving hay to make it easier to feed.

I haven't been out but am wearing my alert thing when I do go out. Hopefully, May not have to cut ice today.

Iris, so glad you're that far from the fires. Those winds sound awful and the fires even worse.

JeriLynn, glad the babies are thriving and you have a new one. How much fun it will be when all four can play together.. There used to be some goats on the way to Tulsa near a place we would stop to get a coke and it was so much fun to watch them jumping and playing.

Guess I need to make a couple of calls to find another CPA to do my taxes. Would like to find one closer. Hard to believe it's that time again.

Zetta, hope you are feeling better today. I know how you feel. Just remember that you lived Emma and gave her a good life. So glad to have you back with us again. Wish Joan would feel like posting again.

Eagle, saw on the weather that you're in the weather warning for snow. We''re just on the edge is in of a weather watch. May get 3" and that's enough but sounds like it may be during the night. I do like to see snow fall when the flakes are.big. Take care everyone. Will post more later.

I thought this posted this morning, but guess not. Judith, is your family okay?

Nice to see you on the porch. Dunno. Sounds like you might be from the south? Most.of have been caregivers and are still caring for someone or have lost our loved one. This is a comfortable place to.come and communicate and share with othets. Tell us a little about yourself.

Bradley fed the girls this morning, at least grain. The girls were walking around the pond edges looking for a thawed place but the middle of the pond has thawed. It's 34 degrees with a wind chill of 35. I didn't cut ice this morning - girls haven't been up to the house today. Better post thus or you all will think I've flown the coop. Back later.

    Hello All.

Thank all of you for the welcome back and the condolences for Emmy, I felt the hugs, and they helped. My older cat Sammy, is still looking for her.

Lolita, so far I have no problem's with my tablet, other then my fingers being too big and hitting more then one key at a time. I hope you got some air in your tires. Having a flat is so fun. I bet you love you new heater. Please keep your hands warm, I think frostbite can settle in without warning. And I'm still watching all my cow boys, wagon train is on right now.

David. You should put all your winning in a jar, and see how fast they add up. I'm sorry your chair had a hole in it, did it come new that way? I love that color blue.

Loves kitties, it was nice my daughter is here with me, but I think she took the death of my Emmy, harder then me. She is a big cat lover, she has 2 and would have more if her DH let her. Our kitties are Sammy, Timmy and Lillie.

Ron, sorry your still having health issues. You have had a tuff 2024. Your in my prayers for a better 🙏 year.

Jerilynn, I bet you love all those babies. Pictures please.

Judith, I'm sorry to hear that the Palisades neighborhood was destroyed, hopefully your family is safe.

Iris, it's good your 30 miles away from the fires, hopefully the wind does not bring it closer to your direction. There has been a lot of news about the fires in Southern California, on TV.

Carl, I'm glad you finally got your DW in sweaters. When I moved from Oregon I left my sweaters there, thinking I would not need them in Arizona. I was wrong, we are having chilly mornings. I had to get me a few sweatshirts.

Please take care all of you, I'm glad to be back on the porch again. Love and Hugs, zetta

hi Ms Lorita. Yes I’m in the south just north of Atlanta. They’re forecasting up to 8”of snow Friday and Saturday so maybe I’m not far enough south.
David I like your assisted chair, I’ve been wanting one for quite awhile.

Thanks Zeeta. All 6 family members are are safe. That is the most important. The future for that whole area is very shaky. Even if one can rebuild will there ever be any insurance.

Lorita…Mike probably has a good CPA.

Iris…we are all hopeful the wind does not shift and throw the fire your way.

Hadn't thought of that, Judith, although his wife may do their taxes. I will ask him. Glad your family i s safe. Such an awful thing to happen.

.Zeta, you need a stylus or a pencil with an eraser to use. I ordered an packet of them years ago and they really help.

Dunno, I say y'all all the time, just don't type it. You would be surprised at how many people add Ms. In front of my name, when I tell them my name and we talk. If you get snow maybe you can make a snowman. Hopefully, we won't get enough.

Zetta, the pkg. Wasn't the heater. I didn't look at the address and when I opened it, it was a printer for someone 15-20 miles away. Heater is supposed to come today - delayed from yesterday. It may be down at the gate now.

It's still 35 but feels so cold -'just came inside from checking on the red WF cow I think is going to calve. Saw her laying down with the others.

Ron, will you get snow tomorrow? Weather just showed the Oklahoma map and it had increased the area to get snow.

Enjoy the evening, everyone., and stay warm.

    Welcome Dunno.

The fires here are still roaring, in fact the first fire has spawned four more. Over 30,000 acres are burning in northern LA county. During the night at 3 am, the third million gallon reservoir went DRY. So the firefighters had no water to fight the fire. Apparently they are trucking in water. There are water scooping airplanes to scoop ocean water but they cannot fly because the winds are still too high. Pres Biden is still stranded here because Air Force One cannot fly.

Firefighters have been requested from other districts in CA and from other states.

Over 1000 houses and other structures including Palisades Shopping Center have been destroyed. Many tens of thousands have been evacuated, I don't know where they all went.

Air quality is poor, the entire county has been warned to stay indoors away from ash and other air pollution from the fires.

Many who lost their homes have no fire insurance because major insurance companies had stopped writing or renewing fire policies in CA due to prior fires. Many are $2-8 million homes.

The freeways and roads are still clogged due to uprooted trees and flying debris. Also large trucks have been overturned by high winds, blocking lanes. Wind gusts were up to 95 mph during the night, but mostly 60-70 mph.

Some dastardly people have been looting evacuated homes.

There are two confirmed deaths of people who were not able to evacuate in time and died at their home.

Judith, I'm glad your friends got out safely. I hope they have someone who can take them in, there are no shelters because they are filled with the homeless. Temporary shelters are made from schools and other public buildings. But one entire high school has been destroyed.

I actually don’t type ya’ll Lorita my phone does it automatically. It’s a southern phone, prolly won’t do that if you bought your phone up north.

now they’re talking 1” of ice for Friday and Saturday. Good grief.
Shouldn’t complain too much though, can you imagine being out west in those fires and having to evacuate. Where do these people go after they evacuate??

A Bank of America branch has burned to the ground.

Two senior care facilities have been evacuated.

The Convention Center is being used as a temporary shelter, it can hold several thousand people.

Now the fires are in the flatlands and attacking apartment buildings. Not everyone is wealthy, aside from in the Pacific Palisades area most are regular working people who have little to no fall-back savings.

I'm upset. I told a friend that I was up late watching the stories about the fires on my phone, thus I didn't get a lot of sleep. She said "why, that has nothing to do with us!" I was disheartened by her callousness. Yes, we are safe now, but many people are suffering now, and it is only going to get worse over the next hours and days. She brought me down.

On a good note, four of my east coast relatives have called me to check on me. That made me feel good.

I have to wear a mask when I step outside to get the mail. It's that bad.
