Thank you Iris, for all the updates, as others have said we get more news from you, then from the news channels.
Alls going good for me, I'm still dealing with sadness for the loss of my kitty. But she's in a better place.
Lorita, yes I do miss Oregon. I lived there for close to 50 years, I miss the stores the people and my son. I do not miss the snow. Living with my DD and her DH is good and I'm starting to get used to things, and the city of Maricopa.
Your all in my prayers along with all of L.A. and the firefighters.
Love and Hugs to all, Zetta

If anybody out there has a YouTube channel they watch from that area by someone they have watched a long time and trust. Sometimes you can find ways to give pretty directly. I only watch one YouTube channel out of California and he’s in Northern California. It’s called farmer Tyler‘s ranch. i’ll try to remember to listen to his latest video tonight in case he would mention anything about it he may not because it’s probably not near him but you never know.
Iris, may be able to tell us some good places to support. Their needs will change with time. You do need to be careful because there unfortunately are some people who don’t care to hurt others for their own gain.. It is easy for those who care to get suckered in so we do need to be cautious as we know how to be.I do still make some bread Lorita. I’ve got back to making my flatbread here lately too. I’ve been making more biscuits and cornbread too, so eating less yeast bread in general.

Mint, I posted some government sites that direct evacuees to resources, and which can guide as to making donations. Look at my post today at 10:04 am, toward the end.
For you animal lovers, the Pasadena Humane Society is taking in evacuated animals and also attempting to go to homes still standing in order to feed pets that were left behind, also to try to capture frightened animals that are running in the streets amidst the debris and downed power lines. I am donating to them.

Hi Loretta, how fascinating we are worlds away, we live in the green and lush, steamy hot tropics in north Queensland Australia. Everything grows in abundance here sugarcane, pineapples, bananas, mangoes and pawpaw to name a few. Fishing is a popular pastime and commercially we have red-emperor, coral trout and prawns we mow the grass on our domestic block every week otherwise it’s out of control, grows 4” in a week hiding deadly snakes. Before my DH got so bad I was kayaking on the local river but had to keep an eye open for crocodiles. It’s a great place to be, weather is usually delightful around 30 Celsius all year. Townsville is called the capital of the north but we are about 1500kl from Brisbane where our son lives. The tennis player you talked about could have been Leyton Hewitt or Pat Cash or Patric Rafter and the movie was possibly Paul Hogan in Crocodile Dundee good for a laugh and a bit of a send-up. Anyway great to sit on the porch , thanks for inviting me.

Mint, went.out on the porch and saw the..full Wolf moon. Beautiful and it's so light outside with the moonlight reflecting off the snow. Thanks for reminding me.
Biggles, my favorite was Rafter. We loved to watch.him.play and he wss easy to look at, too.. Hewitt was a good player but liked Rather better. What was that he did a lot holding his forefinger up against.his forehead? I.kind.of remember Pat Cash. Was he before the other two?
The area where you live sounds lovely- wasn't Rafter from Queensland? All that lovely fruit.. I think it would be wonderful to grow bananas and mangos. I used to hear my grandma talk about pawpaws. What are they like?
The movie was The Man from Snowy River! Such a good movie and also the followup movie,, I love the hats they wote. Do the men teally wear that kind of hat?
The other two ladies on our thread are from the Southern part of Australia, I think - Barbara who writes good books and Sandra.
So glad you decided to sit on the porch with us. Love to hear about your Country.
Good.night, everyone.

It is so interesting to hear about your home, Biggles. It sounds like a paradise. I have always thought of Australia as a dry, dusty place because that is the part of Australia that we usually see in movies, but of course it is a big place.
David, sorry to hear about the nightmares. I had terrifying nightmares for many years, before I started taking antidepressants. I still have some bad dreams but not the kind that make me afraid to go back to sleep. I hope you can get some relief from them.
Lorita, we watched Wagon Train every week when it first ran. I remember hearing that it was sponsored by a bra company, because every week Ward Bond shouted "Head 'em up! Move 'em out!" 😆

Good morning
Biggles I like hearing about your country too. Prayers for you and your DH.
David, I hope they are able to help ease your nightmares.
6° here this morning and a chance for a skiff of snow. I’m going to try to layer up and turn the heat down a little bit so it don’t run so much. Staying busy also helps you stay warm.

Good sunny and 45* afternoon to you fellow porch sitters!
It's been a busy few days. Feeding and tending isn't as much fun in the icy, snowy, windy winter as it is in springtime, lol. Today has been better. Still a little cool but the wind has died down some. So, I spent some time picking up each of the babies and giving everyone treats. Those little triplets are everywhere, lol. Spunky little things. Their Mama Goldie has been Betty (ususally queen of the herd and bossy) a run for her money. Betty is really a hog at heart because she thinks nobody should get feed except herself. Well, Goldie has completely set her straight. Betty backs off when Goldie swaggers up. I told Betty today "well, young lady I guess that'll teach you to be a mean girl!"
We had another baby yesterday. Mama was down in the back far pasture when DH found her and the baby. Both are fine. DH scooped the baby up to bring it to the barn, but Mama wouldn't follow him (she's a new goat to us) so he set the baby down. They're both out in the sunshine while she grazes. They have shelter in the pasture and are out of the wind. Jackson the Billy is down there and Boogie who has had babies before, so she's in good company. There's also another "new to us" goat down there. She was someone's pet. DH gets aggravated with her because once you're inside the fence she is all over you looking for treats. Of course, that's my kind of goat. And this afternoon we put yet another Mama to be up in the front pasture; she's getting close to her time. (Beth, DH raises and sells goats. So; I can't too attached to anyone.)
I have spoken to DH about planned parenthood/pregnancies for these goats so we don't have all these babies in this cold weather. He is in agreement so we soon will transfer Jackson to the front North pasture to be a bachelor till the Spring. He's gotten Boogie in the family way again. Her baby is up front, away from Jackson. We'll be looking for another Billy come Spring.
If all goes well, we plan to leave Saturday for our trip to Port Aransas, Texas. Beachside RV and campground park. I say if all goes well. DH's granddaughter, the one who stayed with us a few weeks back in the summer (I posted her picture for you once before), is in the hospital. She had what was thought to be a sinus infection, then a UTI, then an upper respiratory infection and 3 trips to the clinic and the ER. They were here Sunday and she looked like death eating a cracker. I fussed until she cried and agreed to go to the clinic Monday morning. Well, they were booked but they agreed with me and sent her on to the ER. She has Mono, tonsilitis, a touch of pneumonia. I was afraid, and I was correct, she was also septic. So, she got transferred from the small community hospital to the mothership in Nashville. Today, after multiple bags of fluids, IV antibiotics and steroids, she is improved. She will stay another night and possibly discharge home tomorrow. I'm going to request she and the boyfriend come stay here. (And bring those dogs again) I'll feel more comfortable if I can have my eyes on her a couple of days since we are supposed to go out of town. And, if she relapses, I can take her back for follow up. She's tiny, sassy and stubborn. And she just about got in too deep. So we'll see how that goes.
This was awfully long wasn't it? It's been a doozy.
Prayers for NC and California. Prayers for each of you. Stay safe, warm and dry.

back…a friend, on the way home from the vet, was told her that her dog's allergies at this time of the year were due to inside environment and that she need to get air purifiers. I am remembering being told that same thing. Usually dust mites, mold or dander from other animals.
Watching the senate hearing and deciding that I do not have to keep my grandparents furniture!

I understand that a new fire kicked up but was able to be put out. The existing fires are still smoldering, contsinment is still low. The wind where I live is very slight, and I had a good clear view of the mountains when I was driving on the freeway earlier, no smoke in sight. Apparently the winds are expected to pick up later in the night. Santa Monica evacuees have been allowed to return to the homes.
I have nothing new to report, everything is the same and ongoing. There is till talk about the causes of the fires, warnings not to loot or price gouge, still searching for missing people and missing pets, people are getting assistance. It's too early to talk about rebuilding, wait until the immediate threats are diminished.

Pretty good afternoon but still have a lot of snow. Lots of it did melt so there is water and mud everywhere. Supposed to be about 20 in the morning so there will be ice.
Got the PU started and the caps off the valve stems on the car. Guess I just couldn't grip them yesterday.. It says the tires are low so found an air gauge and they are even though they don't look like it. Tried to find how much air they need , probably 32-35. Funny or odd, they're 17" tires and the tractor tires are as tall as me, 5'6" and they only take 12-15 lbs. Found out why my landline phone isn't working and called about it snd they will get it fixed. Got the paperwork done to get my new car tag. Cannot believe I have had it a whole year.
Mint, got to see the beautiful wolf moon before the clouds moved in. Really pretty.
Iris, I see where the strong winds are to begin again tonight. Wish they wouldn't so the firefighters can get more of the fires under control.
The news.just showed a picture of a 19 ft. Tall snowman a family made in Red Oak, Okla. They had a lot of snow, too. JeriLynn, you have so many little kids How do you not get really attached to them? Sometimes it's really hard to.get a cow to follow you to the barn after she calves, too. Do.hope the granddaughter continues to improve..
Sandy, thank you for the call tonight. Always helps to talk with a friend who understands. Rest well tonight and be safe.
Good night, everyone.

Lorita, look on the inside of the driver's door with the door open. There is a label that tells you what pressure the tires need. I check mine every month, because a tire will lose about a pound a month regardless. And low temperatures lower the pressure, so you always have to add air when the temperature drops.
I didn't know tractor tires were so low pressure. Bicycle tires are about 60#!

Judith, I am typing this on a laptop that rests on my great-grandparents' library table. But I don't have any of their other furniture, nor would I want it. Decluttering is good for the soul.

my BIL and a friend have propane tanks buried in the ground. That would end unsightly tanks and still hold a sizable amount but unlike natural there is a limit to the supply.

JeriLynn, my grandfather used artificial insemination for his cattle for years, which let him time calving quite well, but then decided to improve his herd by buying a registered bull. He soon was reminded that bulls care nothing for planned parenthood.
I was a child at the time and asked him the difference between a registered bull and other bulls. He responded: "A registered bull has papers." I don't think he was very happy with his bull that day.

I do not have to keep my grandparents furniture!
What kind of furniture? I have a bed, dresser and rocker that belonged to my grandparents that I use in a guest room.

Good morning front porch friends! I read daily, but hard to post because everything with me is negative news. Besides the rise with psa after successful treatment, being referred to hematology oncology and now last night receiving a call they want a bone scan. I do pray daily for my friends on the porch and California, but if I don't check in as often as I use to, please understand.
Ron

good morning 8°
JeriLynn prayers for your granddaughter. It’s good that you’re looking out for her because people her age don’t understand their vulnerability to things like sepsis. We do because we have worked with it, and I personally have experienced it.
Thank you Iris for the updateRon I understand. Sorry things are so overwhelming right now. Prayers that you will find peace in the storm
Lorita I saw the wolf moon when I went to bed through the tree limbs. But this morning I can’t see it it must be cloudy. They are giving sunshine today, so that will be nice.

Good morning. The Wolf Moon was very bright here when I woke up.
Biggles— your description of your area sounds positively Edenic. Except for the crocs.
David— that's quite a streak you're on. I do hope they are able to manage your issue with nightmares. Sometimes SSRI medications can cause vivid or disturbing dreams so medications can be tricky.
Jerilynn— it's extra scary when a younger person is the one who is so very ill. I hope she recovers quickly and without any setbacks.
Iris— Thanks for your continued updates.
Judith— your cryptic message "Watching the senate hearing and deciding that I do not have to keep my grandparents furniture!" has me puzzled. Do you mean actual furniture or is it a reference to the advanced ages of the current senate?
I have the Welsh dresser my mom's dad made my nana as a wedding present. I have a picture of me sitting in front of it celebrating my 1st birthday at their beach house. I also have one of DS sitting in front of it on his 1st birthday.Lorita— sometimes tire pressure is determined by the terrain one is driving on. When we used to offroad in the Wrangler at Assateague Park, we had to let most of the air out of the tires on entering the sandy trails and add it back in before driving home.
Ronald— I hope your appointment goes well. Dad's PSA was higher than that and rose more quickly (up over a full point) and his bone scan was clear. I hope that is the case for you as well.

I'm taking it easy today. Monday was a very long appointment at mom's retina specialist. The doctor who does the injections is only at this satellite location on Mondays and it's almost like an assembly line. The trick here is to schedule the last appointment of the day. If you get there at 1PM, you leave around 4PM. If you're scheduled at 3:30PM, you also leave around 4PM. We had to reschedule because her prednisone was making her a moving target, so we got stuck with 1:30PM. We got to watch parts of 5 episodes of Gilligan's Island without sound. The show doesn't make any less sense without it.
Yesterday I met up with a friend who is depressed and hates all her clothes. We went to a mall where she didn't like much of anything but ended up buying near duplicates of what she claims she hates. She needs spring. She was widowed a little over a year ago. Because of her immunodeficiency she is masked indoors at all times so no lunches out. Plus, her vision was damaged by a drug she took and now she can't see to drive after dusk. She's got twin grands due in July and I couldn't even coerce her to look at baby clothes.
She made mom some low-salt meals, so I had to run them to her place before going home. She's feeling a little sorry for herself, too. She's always a little cranky after the injections as her eyes are a little tender and her vision worse temporarily. I took her with me to the market just to get her out. Perhaps DS and I can go over to her place to put her boxed up Christmas decor in the garage for her later. I need to make a plan to take her to visit her friend in the nursing home, but I worry it'll make her even more depressed than she already is. I wonder if taking her to a movie would be better for her mood. She'd like the new Dylan movie I'm sure.
Be safe out there.

Good morning! Another cold day. We did avoid the snow, though. There is a little bit on the ground but most of the inch or so we received a couple of weeks ago has melted. We'll briefly be in the 40's on Thursday. Looking forward to that. Had a dental appointment and a haircut appointment earlier this week.
JeriLynn, I am praying for your granddaughter to be well again. I hope you are able to take your trip as planned. I know getting away isn't that easy when you have animals that need to be cared for, so hope you can keep your plans.
Time to exercise - Hey, I've kept that New Year's resolution for 15 days now! lol
Hugs and prayers for all. Especially Ron, Iris and people in fire area, JeriLynn and Jo. Beth

HB….I feared the sentence would not make sense…lol
The problem is I checked 1st dibs on line and a similar library table was marked 12K!!! I have no idea if that is realistic but it is far,far greater than what it would sell for here.
Ron…we want to know how you are so please continue to post.
Still icy in front of driver's side of my car so stuck inside another day.

Here is some good news about the fires. 70 mph winds were expected but they did not come, instead, winds were mild overnight. Winds are still mild today. There were little to no new fires, according to the LA Fire Chief. They used infrared technology to search for hidden hot spots, which were extinguished.
Right now, there is abundant staffing of firefighters, including local jurisdictions, from around California, other states and from Mexico and Canada. Even Ukraine offered support.
There is abundant law enforcement staffing from LA City, LA County, CHP and the National Guard. 70% of homes in the Altadena/Pasadena area have been inspected and some evacuees have been allowed to return to their homes that are undamaged. However, many areas still have no power, water or gas.
The death toll has not gone up. Some missing persons have been found alive and well.
Looting and curfew violations have continued. People arrested face at least six years in prison. Another man was found impersonating a firefighter.
The Governor has delayed the tax filing deadline until October 15th.
Some shelter animals were flown to shelters in other cities or states to make room for evacuated animals.
More good news. Oreo was found! Oreo was separated from his guardian, Casey, on the first day. Casey asked all over for help. Oreo was seen in the rubble, but was too scared to come close. Casey hired a dog finder. They had to sneak into the evacuated areas, but after 7 days, Oreo was rescued! Casey was ecstatic, as I was. You might see their reunion online.
