Mom thinks we move her daily

Mom is in an AL and has been living there since November. Daily she tells me “I am just so tired of being moved to a new place every day”. Any suggestions on what to say to this? When I try to reassure her she will stay in that room, she never believes me.

Hi otfgirl - welcome to 'here', but sorry for the reason.

    Rule #1: don't argue with a PWD.

Try saying you're so sorry, and you will have a talk with the manager about that. It is more about validating her feelings. In her mind, she is being moved every day. Is there something that may be causing her to perceive that she is being moved? Does she need to leave her space for meals and it confuses her, maybe?

thank you, that is helpful. She does leave her room for meals and activities so I think that probably causes the confusion for her

You might also try distracting her, perhaps by asking what she liked best about her "other" room. That may lead to some insight about what would make her feel more at home.

try putting photo of her and a sign with her name on the outside of the door to help her recognize her apartment/room as hers.

It sounds as if she can’t remember how to find her way back and is covering it up by saying she’s been moved every day. Take her for a walk to the dining hall and point out landmarks along the way. ‘ Look mom, the room next to yours has a cute plaque on the door. Oh this one here has flowers on their door’.
