Morning, Happy Mother Day to all the mothers of humans or fur babies on our forum and thread. Looks like a pretty day in store.

Stilwell is having their strawberry festival this weekend, Mayfest in Tulsa and many other things going on. Wish I could eat strawberries and berries but doctor days no.

Just had breakfast in bed - peanut butter chocolate puffs with milk and bananas. Stormy and Sheena go to the vetin the morning for allergy shots and nail trim for Sheena. I know Stormy would.not permit it. Darwin is going to help me get Sheena in the car, so lifting there. Rest, Theragesic and heating pad today, JeriLynn, for sure. Enjoy the pretty day. Back later. Have never had honey or molasses on cornbread, just butter. Don't you all just love all the things we discuss?

Carl…a dollop is significantly large than a tad. Me at the meat market "I would like just a dollop of chicken paste ( it is labeled chicken salad but it is spreadable) them "blank stare"…me " a large serving spoonful" them " OK, never heard of a dollop" me "how about a dollop of Daisy" them "oh yeah".

Loblolly is where you make mud pies and you always wear raggel-taggle clothes when you go out to make them.

Lorita…no one listens to me…lol. Here goes anyway, order smaller bags and fewer cans. You body is worth the extra expense. Use your car as storage. I always had bags put into the back of my suv so I could slide them out and into a wheel barrow. You can go to Walmart and get pet food etc and be charging your car battery at the same time. It would be win/win! As to the potting soil simply take out small amounts to carry to your pots until the bag is light. Why aren't you using your dolly!!!!!

Cornbread…am I the only one who bakes theirs? I gave my old Griswolds away. Also gave my carbon steel pan away. Not giving any of my AllClad away.

Beautiful day here. The USGA Women's Championship is underway around the corner from me. Started yesterday and will go into the week. Lots of people, cars and flags. My daughter will work one of the holes tomorrow. I have no idea what that entails but will ask her at dinner tonight.

Went to Jpe's this morning to lick up ice cream. The checkout lines were backed up into the aisles…everyone was buying flowers.

Judith, I bake corn bread in an iron skillet. I also have an iron skillet with separate sections for triangles of the bread.

About carrying things, I just get in a hurry and want to get it done. FedEx delivers cat and dog food from Chewy to the porch. Then I do use the dolly to get it to the utility room at the back of the house . If I get cat food from WM it is delivered to the porch. I was storing Billy's feed in the back of the car but had to put it in The PU because of taking the GPs to the vetnand it was where Sheena will ride. I'm just used to lifting and tend to forget I should no longer do it. I am better today. When I wasn't having so many things delivered I had a cart I put the groceries in to get them to the house.

I used to make mudpies. I used a jar lid for the pan, Mulberry leaf for the crust and baked them in an old stove daddy bought at a farm auction. But, didn't eat them.

We used to make fried cornbread. Just meal, salt and hot water You put a spoonful of it in your hand, flattened it out and slid it into oil. It was delicious! Would that be corn pone?

Little.bit of lifting in the morning.. Darwin will help me lift Sheena into the car and they will put her back in at the vets. I found a place I.can get the back of the car closer to the ground but she still wouldn't get in. I will work on that. Still have to feed Billy but only give him about five pounds of sweet feed so not too heavy. He comes from the back of the bsrn when I call him.

Fried cornmeal sounds like a Frito to me. Cornmeal, salt, and water, fry the paste. In English, frito means "fried." Since Fritos are delicious, I imagine a hot, fresh frito would be even better.

I think of cornpone as the same thing, only baked. If you bake it on a hoe, it is a hoecake. If you add baking powder so it rises, it is cornbread. If you pour a scoop of chili on a bowl of Fritos, it is a Frito pie.

It's all good. Just be sure you get some beans with it. And some greens.

Lorita, did I hear someone say you have an electric car? If so, what kind is it and do you like it?

Judith, I bake my cornbread in a pan and sometimes use a muffin pan, but it is baked. The only time I use the stove top is hot water cornbread, but prefer oven baked.

No electric car. I.bought a 2024 Chevy Equinox the first day of 2024 I like it. Still learning things about it so probably couldn't drive an electric one, and where could I charge it? Used to love Frito chili pies.

Ron, hot water cornbread? Is that like what I wrote about?

Will Rogers loved chili and cornbread. Whenever he was scheduled to speak at a dinner, he found a diner and ate chili and cornbread before the event. Then he talked to people during dinner and left the rubber chicken and cold green beans sit.

Never tried chili and cornbread. We either ate it with crackers or Doritos with the chi!I served over rice. Have you ever been to the Will Rogers Museum in Claremore? Also on a lot of MSNBC interviews with people at the White House there's a statue of Will Rogers in the background.

Yesterday was a lost day for me. I slept really badly the other night so spent yesterday in a daze. I went to sleep last night around 11:30 and slept until 10am. Clearly I'm not as young as I used to be. 😄

jfkoc - About the poke and the loblollies - I was referring to the poke plant that all of you were talking about. And the only poke that I'm familiar with is the raw fish kind. It's salad-like.

    HB - I guess I am a gym rat - something I never thought I'd be.

For cornbread - I've only made it once by scratch, and I'm pretty sure I baked it. The two mixes that I tend to use are Krusteaz and my preferred, Bob's Red Mill Golden Cornbread mix. I bake those too. Sometimes I visit the Southern Living website and once saw an article there that said that most Southerners don't put sugar in their cornbread. Sounds like here it's kind of mixed? And of course now I want cornbread.

Iris - I'm glad that Adam is doing better.

Happy Mother's Day to all moms out there. Moms of fur babies absolutely count!

Now I'm back to doing all the cleaning I was supposed to do yesterday!

Good morning. Who else has been thinking of Lorita and the vet visit? Hopefully she been there and is home now.

Cornbread, with just a tad of sugar. Baked in a pan in the oven.

I never made it to the big umbrella's. I knew if I sat on the ground I'd never be able to get up, so I did other things. It's suppose to be 103 on Wed. That's just ridiculous. It's far too early to be that hot.

Let's be safe everyone. Back later.

Hi blacksparky….always room for another rocking chair on the porch.

    GG…OK, poke…..Poke

is a dish of diced raw fish tossed in sauce and served either as an appetizer or a main course. Poke. Poke made with tuna, soy sauce, Hawaiian sea salt ...

Lorita is probably back home and collapsed on the bed.

Cornbread…just like a heaping teaspoon of sugar and never heard of white corn meal. Dick liked polenta…also made with corn meal just to expand the topic…lol

Judith, is polenta the same as corn meal mush? My mom would make cornmeal mush of a cereal like consistency, pour it into a bread pan and refrigerate it. Later, she'd slice it and fry it in the electric skillet and serve it with butter and syrup. It was delicious!

Glad you dropped by, Blacksparky. Many of us have been on the front porch for quite a while and all of us have become good friends.
Got home about an hour ago $460 poorer. Darwin came over and helped get Sheena in the car. Busy, busy place but Mike knows everything that's going on. He checked both Sheena and Stormy's ears. They had to be flushed and one of Stormy"s was infected. So the girl flushed all of them and put in medicine. The one of Stormy's that was really infected hurt so much he required a muzzel which has never been required before.
Sheena got all her nails trimmed which was not an easy task. I had trimmed his so that didn't have to be done. Mike checked Sheena's bilateral hygromas and the fatty growth on Stormy's stomach- all okay
Each one got their allergy shot and an antibiotic shot. Brought home antibiotic pills, pain pills (arthritis in both. He said Stormy is getting arthritic, more probiotics for Stormy and now for Max. Max upchucks after he eats. Also Prednisone they always take after allergy shots. I will have to make a chart for the medicine. I know I have forgotten something.
Sheena weighs 86 pounds and Stormy weighs 99 pounds. One of the girls went out with me to help get Sheena in the car. I opened the door for Stormy who gets in by himself and Sheena jumped in before he could get in. Both were ready to come home. Both are inside now, relaxed. Back in ten days for ear recheck, maybe. Quite an ordeal for sure.
Saw the girls on the way home and stopped to talk to them. The men are working on cleaning up the fallen trees along the north side of the farm and I am happy about that. It will look so much better. So, all three of us are ready to take it easy a while. I will work with Sheena on betting the car since I know she can. A couple of years ago I managed to get Stormy in the PU to go to the vet and after he got his exam and shit he jumped in easiky. Everyone is always ready to go home.
While we were waiting a woman brought her little dog in, probably for surgery. The girl took it from her and the woman was crying when she left. As she walked past me I said to her that it hurts to leave them and she said it was like leaving your kid.
Eagle, the weather said it would be 100 in Dallas today and 105 in San Antonio. Too hot for this early. We're going to be in the 90s midweek.

Lorita…Yikes $$$$. Sheena has had you fooled for years. Now you do not neet to worry about her. Maybe you couold take both of them for car rides now. Did Mike give you instruction on keeping the dogs ears clean? We had to do that with one of our dogs. It is relatively easy.

What did you do for the ears, Judith? She did get in the Mercury I used to have because it was nearer to the ground. She even pushed ahead of Stormy to get in. She had enough of that place. I will try to be her in to go t o the mailbox. Good thing I don't have an insurance co-pay when I.go to the doctor. I think I also pay more for cat and dog food than my food. Did you decide not to ever get another Dog? I know you miss Luke - how much did he weigh?

Good morning. Vet bills are expensive, aren't they? And you did not have any laboratory tests.

I'm getting ready to take my cats to their pet hotel. Adam will be no trouble but I have to sneak up on Sammie to get him into the carrier.

    Good afternoon Rockers,

Lorita. I had to laugh while reading your morning post the one at 10:35, telling us about Stormy, jumping into the PU a few years ago after having his exam and shit. 😃 😊 😀 😄 😁 you would be surprised how my messages come out at times, especially if I'm talking it.

I used to have a parrot that talked like that. He had a fowl mouth.

One day I put him in the freezer to teach him a lesson. When I opened the door, he was shivering. I said "Any questions?" Parrot said "Just one. What did that turkey do?"

    Ingredients

    • ▢2 cups self-rising plain cornmeal ((not cornmeal mix))
    • ▢1 1/2 to 2 cups boiling water*
    • ▢vegetable oil for frying

    • Pour about 1/2 inch of oil into a heavy-bottomed skillet. Heat the oil to about 350° or until glistening but not smoking. In a large thick plastic or metal bowl combine the self-rising corn meal with about 1 1/2 cups of boiling water. Carefully stir to combine. The batter should barely be pourable. Add additional water until you reach the consistency of very thick pancake batter. Different corn meals will require different amounts of water. Start with less and add more if you need it.
    • ▢Once the oil is hot, pour or spoon about 1/4 cup of the batter into the oil. Cook 3 to 5 minutes or until brown around the edges then carefully flip over and cook an additional 3 to 4 minutes. Work in batches, adding additional oil if necessary. Drain the cornbread on a plate lined with paper towels. Serve warm.
