Lorita - I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you about the refrigerator. It's really annoying when they don't come through when they're supposed to.
I'm kind of impressed with the Walking With Dinosaurs show (even though I haven't seen it yet) in that they're featuring the "non A-list" dinosaurs like Pachyrhinosaurus. I'm glad they're getting their time in the sun. Like I said, I'll be binging this one for sure.
JeriLynn - I hope you guys have a great party! Or maybe it's "had" by now. 🙂
Bet'cha get more cats and/or dogs. Bet'cha.
HB - Yesterday while you were wilting in the heat, we were on the cold side, with a bit of rain. Today is better, with 70+ degrees and mostly sun.
Wow, Kathryn Leigh Scott! She looks fantastic. She really hasn't aged much at all. Maybe she's the one with the painting in the attic instead of Quentin. 😈 Thank you for sharing that article - I loved it. The one and only time I went to Comic-Con (in 2010), I briefly got to meet her and Lara Parker (Angelique). They were really nice, and not all that much taller than me. I'd say they were maybe both around 5'5.
Elton John and Motown — yes!!
I'm sorry you still have to do PT for your wrist.
Judith - I always joke that I was born ten years too early - I should have been a teen in the 1980s. The music, the clothes, etc., was all much more aligned with my likes and dislikes. I was never a hippie and never leaned in that direction, so culturally, the 1970s were not really my cup of tea. Although looking back, as a civil liberties/civil rights person, I can see that the 1970s were the high water mark.
Mint - I hear you about being a scientist. Research always appealed to me too.
Carl - I'm with you and your friend - the two of you can sit together if you want to.
Iris - I love your photos! The one of that valley is just stunning.
Nothing much going on over here. Today's my cleaning day, but since I did such a deep clean a couple of weeks ago, it's all pretty light today.
When I'm done with the cleaning I'm making deviled eggs! My thought is that we deserve a treat.

Yes, Quigley (Tom Selleck) is a good-looking man. Some of his westerns were pretty good. I see on YouTube that he has progressed from hawking reverse mortgages to endorsing a company that sells gold coins online. From a bad financial move to a worse financial move.
GG, of course you deserve a treat! I love deviled eggs. My father would sometimes spread mustard on boiled egg halves as a quick method of approximating deviled eggs, but my mother made the real thing. Delicious!

I hardly ever make deviled eggs. Seems like a lot of trouble and I really don't care for the whites.I boil eggs for the GPs and Stormy will Only eat the yolk. I like to mash up a boiled egg and add mustard and salt and pepper and eat them with crackers.
Sandy. Got the clothes out o f the dryer so am ready for bed. Enjoyed our visit. Good night, everyone

Judith, the pictures don't do the valley justice, it is so beautiful!

Log cabin home—note the thatch on the roof for insulation—still used on some homes today.

Iris - the scenery in those photos is so gorgeous. When I saw the log cabin the first thing I thought of was Lincoln Logs. The logs made up the walls just like your photo, and they had green roofs. 🙂

Good morning
Iris, we are going to Desoto Falls near Fort Payne, Alabama. It’s pretty but doesn’t even compare to the photos you posted- that is amazing scenery. And such fat, fluffy goats! Gorgeous.

For some reason, the site wouldn't let me add photos to my previous post? But anyway, here's the lunch table set up and a post ceremony photo. I didn't even take any pictures after we got home. It was a fun day. Granddaughter is 27 and her daughter is 6. So, this degree has taken some commitment to accomplish. Her gift from me was $$ because who doesn't need that? And, I also promised to pay for her Masters degree journey. That will mean a little less Amazon shopping for me but I think it a worthy investment. She's my first granddaughter. She and her sister did a little jewelry shopping in my collection yesterday🤣. That was fun because I gifted them vintage pieces from my Mother, Grandmother and Aunt, along with a family history story with each piece. Her sister is about to enter the Bachelor program for Nursing, so she got my watches from my nursing school days. It was a wonderful day and I am so very blessed with family.
We'll go to church today and then maybe finish loading the camper. It is miserably hot and humid with more to come. Heat index is dangerous.
I hear DH at the coffee pot so it's time to go sit on the front porch to watch the birds. Y'all have a good day and I'll TTYL.

Good morning. It's kind of gray around these parts. We have a combination of cloud cover and smoke from Canadian wildfires. Air quality is unhealthy, so mom will need to hang in the house.
Gothic G— I am still salty that the ERA was never ratified. Just sayin'.
It's funny, I also felt more of a kinship with people about a decade younger which is funny because most of my few very close friends and my DH are 6-10 years older. Even though DH and I are both boomers, he's from the first wave while I am more of the Generation Joneser model. DS who is very interested in history and culture pointed this out to me.
Carl— Selleck also played the patriarch on "Bluebloods". In the middle stages of dementia my dad thought of the characters on the show as his family. He'd talk to them during the iconic dinner scenes which took some getting used to. I suspect he strongly self-identified with Selleck's character.
Yes, to deviled eggs. Always.
Iris— The pictures are stunning. That's a very nice hotel room and what a view.
DS is usually the trainman which is what most people think of as the conductor. He's done all manner of odd jobs with the railroad. Mostly public facing stuff like passenger relations, but he's done inventories for the shops, food prep in their kitchen, countless loads of dishes, some renovation work on their coaches and engines, he researched and wrote the script for the narration done during excursions, he did a recorded version they sometimes use and recorded the station announcements, does a lot of their photography, designed the livery for their newest freight diesel and was even the Easter Bunny a number of times.
I'm sure your Napa Wine Train experience was a lot nicer than what they offer here. The railroad's owner likes to feature local wines and they're just not very good. They rotate through the wine and cheese excursion, a local beer experience and the speakeasy that features a flight of demi-cocktails.
Jerilynn— That's a great picture. IME, moms are often the best students. Your dress is really cute.

Good morning all
Wow, I had a lot of reading to catch up on. I've been trying to be busy & productive first thing in the morning because of the heat. That 'should' be my porch time! What I found out was, that was a good plan but it seemed to fail, because of me! Apparently in the morning I have zero focus and start several things and finish none. I'd go outside to weed and that would happen for a few minutes, then I'd decide I'd better water, and while watering think the patio should be blown off. And I could go on. Inside was the same thing. That is not typically how I do things. So I've given up on that plan!!
Also DH has been keeping me busy. He's seemed needy, for lack of a better word. Its like the second I'm doing something then he needs help. I'm glad that he asks for help, I just wish his timing was a little better!
Loved seeing everyone's pictures. I'll post one of us. Do be careful outhere, its gonna be a hot one, Be safe everyone.

This was taken this spring. We'd just spoken at a huge luncheon - sharing our dementia journey. Trying to bring awareness.

Notice our purple shirts? This was taken after last years ALZ Walk.

Morning, busy thread already. Love all the pictures. Eagle, I love the expression on your husband's face in the picture with the purple shirts. How far did you all walk?
Going to be another hot one today. This is the hottest time of year for us. Took down trash, watered plants and gave the girls fresh water and that was enough. Will, hopefully, will stay inside the rest of the day. You all be careful in the heat

Good afternoon
Carl, I think that will be good for you and your new friend. I agree with Lorita she needs that and good for you also. Just having another human being to talk to a big help in life.
I told my nephew recently that, I’ve discovered that I’m too old for young people and I’m too young for old people. I don’t know if he understood me or not. He did laugh though. My mind is as young as interested in life as it ever has been. I know I’m getting older. I’m fully aware of that and I don’t even try to deny that. But you go to the doctor I’ve noticed a difference ever since I became a medicare patient. I feel like they treat you like you’re a broken down car-that they’re ready to get rid of. I find it frustrating. Maybe I am expecting too much. Always enjoyed old people and was good to them.
Lorita hope all your refrigerator woes go away soon. I don’t blanch the corn. I cut it off the cob and I scrape the cob. Then I put about 4 tablespoons of butter for each dozen of corn and a teaspoon of salt. And then I bring it to a low simmer and simmer it for three minutes. Then I remove it to a big bowl and I stick it in ice water and cool it off and then I freeze it.
Iris thank you for sharing the pictures, beautiful.
thank you Eaglemom for sharing. I’ve enjoyed all the pictures.

Good afternoon. Great pics, Eagle! Thank you for sharing.
Went to church, then to Culver's for lunch. I had a grilled chicken sandwich, fries and a coca cola float. Delicious! I am now inside keeping cool. It is 89 with a feel like temp of 95. Brutal!
No garden tomatoes ripe yet but we have had several cucumbers. I prepare the cucumbers 2 ways: 1) Mayo, onion, s & p, and dill weed; and 2) Salt, sugar, onion, and red wine vinegar. The latter is my favorite. Ron prefers the former. We've had really good sweet corn from roadside stands the past few weeks. I typically will freeze some for winter.
Stay safe; stay cool. Beth

Good afternoon.
We took a cruise on the fjords of Norway. Fjords were created by glaciers and thus created stunning scenery of mountains and waterfalls. I have so many photos but here are a few.

The weather was overcast so the photos are a bit dark.

Good evening, rockers. Haven’t posted too much lately because nothing much has been happening. We had a blissful two or three days of pleasant weather with highs in the low 80s and low humidity. Tomorrow we go back to the 90s and the sauna. Oh, and now we have Canadian wildfire smoke, too.
I have really enjoyed seeing al the pictures of all the rockers and their loved ones. And Iris, the pictures from your trip to Norway are spectacular. Thank you for posting them!
I realized that I don't have that many pictures of DH and me together. I have lots I took of him, but there usually wasn’t anyone else with us to take pictures of us together. Here is one of my favorites, taken at his last birthday. The cake in the foreground was his favorite, my mother’s mocha chip chiffon with coffee frosting. I made it for him every year. Stay cool, everybody.

Iris, which trip did you enjoy most - Africa or Scandinavia? Wonderful pictures for you to remember your trip.
Glad you posted Tigersmom, great picture.
Good.night sleep tight

Lorita, I enjoy all my trips because I want to see how people live in other countries. The citizens of these countries have free medical care, free education up to university level and eighteen months maternity and paternity leave after each child's birth. They pay high taxes to afford these benefits. Everyone is fluent in English and they are cashless societies.
The trips themselves are enjoyable because they are escorted and inclusive. All I have to do is make sure I'm on the bus or train or boat on time.
Beth, no, I didn't kayak.
Judith, many of the homes on the fjords have no road access, only boat access. When I lived in Alaska, I knew remote locations were visited by plane or by dogsled, it might be the same in Norway.

The deviled eggs were a hit! Lorita, they definitely take some time, but when all is said and done, and I have that first bite, it's all worth it. 🙂
JeriLynn - your table arrangement looks like something you'd find in a magazine. And congratulations for your granddaughter.
You know, I'm doing what you're doing - I'm arranging for visits from the cousins one generation down, and will have them go through the various things I've collected over the years from different relatives. The more stuff they take, the better!
HB - I'm 'salty' over the ERA too. I don't know what era of boomer I'm in, but I know my s.o. is probably in a different era than I am. He's a little more than 5 years younger than me, and that difference crops up odd cultural ways - like, very recently he made some comment about putting sugar in his tea, and I asked him "do you put whiskey in your water?" And he looked at me blankly. So I added "what's all these crazy questions you're asking me?" Still, nothing. 😐️ So I told him the name of the song (Mama Told Me Not To Come), and my s.o. is like, "I've never heard that song before." sigh
eaglemom - great photos! I love the purple Alz walk shirts.
Iris - those photos are fantastic. What was the weather like when you were there? I know it was overcast, but was it cold?
Not sure I could do a reindeer hot dog, but the lingonberry sauce looks good.
tigersmom - what a cute photo of the two of you

GG, the weather was probably like Seattle weather. I wore a light sweater on a few days and I usually wore my raincoat in the mornings because I felt chilly. In the afternoon the weather was warmer, especially when the sun was out. On a couple of days there were downpours that lasted about twenty minutes. The sun didn't set until about 10:30 pm and arose about 3:30 am.
