Good morning!
What a lovely amusement park! The grounds are trimmed, the flower beds are lovely, and the walkways are immaculate. Iris, you look great in that picture and look at the laughing child just behind you. Thank you so much for sharing.

Morning everyone. Iris, what a wonderful trip you had. Thamks.for letting us share a bit through your great pictures. Have watered the plants and Bradford Pest tree Darwin transplanted for me.Girls are coming into the barn.for the day. Nice to hear moms and.babies bawling softly to make sure they are all in.
Hot day so will stay inside. Need to finish transferring frozen foods. I have found things in the freezer that I have.no idea what they are. Should always write what things are when I freeze them. Stay cool today.

Morning all. It's gonna be a hot one today. Cooled off to 89 last night and suppose to be over 100. Ugh.
Lorita the ALZ Walk is just shy of four miles. DH was pleased with himself because he'd just completed it. I, on the other hand, was a cheerleader for everyone. These knees can't do that distance. He walked with our friends.
Iris the pictures are great. Thanks for sharing them.
HB I think you ask about the art show. It's called The Faces of Dementia. The goal is to have numerous photographs of those with dementia. It's to show the public that life goes on after a diagnosis. You can go on trips, attend concerts, eat out with friends, garden, go for a walk, etc. What I'm submitting (I'm still working on it) I'm calling A Study of Hats. DH has numerous hats and never leaves the house without one. So I'm compiling various pictures of him 'living life' in a variety of his hats. I really don't care about winning, I care about awareness. I'm having fun getting this together & its taking me far too long to complete.
More later. I need to get ready for Zoom and I'm certain they don't want to see me in my jammies! Let's be safe everyone.

GG, ligonberries are a popular add-on to Scandinavian foods, and especially accompany Swedish meatballs. The taste is like cranberry sauce. On a hotdog, it was like adding jelly instead of ketchup. Apparently ketchup is forbidden for reindeer meat. I saw moose and reindeer sausage sold at the fish market. Also whale meat (ugh)!

I think I'm going to the fair Wednesday evening, after the sun drops. The weather is predicted to be hot, muggy, and a chance of thunderstorms. In other words, normal Fair weather. Wish me luck.

Good morning

Good morning,
Up at 2 am again today. But, the floors are swept, mopped, bathrooms cleaned, bed made (when DH finally got out of it), chickens out and fed, hummingbird feeders filled, showered, face done and ready to go meet my cousin for breakfast. Then on to town for a day of errands: order new glasses, get a few groceries for the possible camping trip on Thursday, get a foot massage for the neuropathy, ? run by TJ Maxx for ??? just in case they have something on sale I cannot live without. Run by the jewelry stored owned by DH's friend and pick out an anniversary present for myself since DH tends to not be very enthralled by gifts on special days - problem solved.
A Funny to tell you - Lorita will completely understand. A neighbor brought corn stalks, shucks, and some ears of corn and threw them over the fence for the goats. Lilly and Jake got between the goats and the gifts and wouldn't let the goats get near enough to eat. UNTIL - the neighbor called the dogs over to the fence, petting them and talking. THEN the dogs allowed the goats to eat. I guess they remembered the neighbor from last year? He doesn't stop to visit like most of the other farmers/workers. My babies were protecting their babies! I'm a proud mama.
Seems the cucumbers and squash are finished. Still getting a few tomatoes and while they are small they are really good. Tomato and Duke's Mayo sandwiches are the BEST!
Oliver Kitty is puny. I think he laid out on the patio too long. I'm making him stay inside today. Heat index is predicted for 110 -112. My hair will be flat as a flitter by the time I get done with errands.
Y'all be safe today. TTYL

Good morning porch people. We're under a heat advisory for the next couple of days here. Mid-90s with lots of humidity. Yuck.
Eaglemom— It sounds like you approach chores like my mom does. It's like If You Give a Mouse a Cookie— she'll start watering plants and noticed the lawn crew blew the cuttings onto her tiny front porch, she'll get out her blower and a bloom to tidy that up, and she'll go into a drawer to find the battery for the leaf blower and decide the drawer needs organization and I drop by and her garage is open, her watering can is out, the contents of the drawer are stacked all over the countertop and she'll be chastising herself for all the jobs she hasn't finished.
I love the pictures you took. I feel like your "hats" project will be a reminder to those who see it of the humanity of those who live with dementia. It's a great perspective to share.
Lorita— Take it easy in the heat. Be safe out there. I am internally giggling over the autocorrect of the "Bradford Pest" tree. IMO, an apt name but I know you feel differently.
Iris— If you get a hankering for lingonberries, IKEA sells them in their food section. My mom always picks up a couple of jars. She remembers them from Maine summers when she was a kid.
Carl— Enjoy your fair visit. Are there any food treats unique to the fair that are on your must-have list? The hot ticket item at our Grange Fair is BBQ chicken hosted by the volunteer fire department. It's OK, not worth the wait in the heat for me. The village where their station is located has an historic train depot that is maintained by a group that fundraises with the same chicken in late September without the long lines. Plus, it's byob if you want a beer or wine instead of their awesome iced tea or lemonade.
Mint— I haven't noticed a huge difference in medical care since I went on Medicare. I was accidently assigned to a new NP who specializes in geriatrics years ago when I changed practices and have finally grown into her specialty. She's very proactive about testing and since Medicare, I'm getting new-to-me screenings like hearing (fine), cognition (fine) and depression/anxiety (no/yes in spades).
Jerilynn— I am exhausted just reading of your completed tasks this morning. Yikes. That's interesting about the dogs guarding until they identified the visitor. I hope Oliver-the-cat perks up.
Enjoy your lunch and shopping. I'm always down to buy new glasses and/or jewelry. What are you planning to get?
______________________________________________________________________________________________
I need to figure out dinner and hit the grocery store.
I hope you all stay cool and hydrated.

Quiet day on the thread. Guess it's too hot to do anything. I know it's as hot in other states and cities as it is here and it must be worse because of all the concrete.
I stayed in today except for watering early. Let the GPs in and out a few times and they didn't stay out long. Iris, standing under one of those waterfalls would really feel good, wouldn't it?
I will say good night. See you all tomorrow.
I wore this Last night and for some reason it didn't post. Anyway it's going to be uber hot today, then a few days cooldown.
JeriLynn, GPs are very protective. Yours just wanted to be sure all was okay. Stormy, especially watches me all the time. When he sleeps he will periodically raise his head to see where I am and will Come and look for me if I have moved.
Sorry for all the weird words. I was telling Sandy that when I type Zetta it types Extra. Just did it again snd.had to correct it. Topped off the water tank for the girls. Some were already in he barn -others getting the last mouthful of grass before coming in. Many stopped.by the kind to cool off . I feel sorry for everyone and animals having to be out in the heat.
Try to stay cool today.

Good morning, rockers. It is 91 degrees already here, and will be 97 when i have to get on the subway for a trip the my doctor’s office. It is always at least 10 degrees warmer down there.
Judith, I will type the cake recipe and post it as soon as I can. My version is hand scribbled, dictated by my mom decades ago. It is a bit of a project, but worth it.
We had a terrible thing happen last night here on Park Avenue. A gunman walked into a building and killed five people, including himself. The first victim was an NYPD officer moonlighting as a security guard. He was 36 years old. He had a wife and two small children, and a third due in a month. My heart breaks for him and for all the victims. All our officers are issued bulletproof vests, but he must not have been wearing his. It is so terribly sad.

Tigersmom, I just read about the shooting in NY. What a tragedy!
HB, I haven't been to IKEA in a long time.
Carl, enjoy the fair!
It's still cool here in SoCal.

Had to. leave my one mile square to go to the dentist. I have been going to him for 35+ years. It used to be a nice drive in the country not it is all roof tops. I no longer drive on the highway so it takes almost 45 minutes.
Not so hot here today.
Iris…my hat is off to you. You are a great traveler. We only went on a tour once. It was so easy. How large are your groups and who runs them?
Fair food is wonderful. Here the top choice is likely Indian Tacos.
Tigersmom…you are in NYC?

There have been several recent stories about mass shootings, mass stabbings, and people driving cars through crowds on the sidewalk. Also about children dying in hot cars. It's like the C&W song "God is great, beer is good, people are crazy." And we are, especially when the temperature is above 100.
No beer at the fair, but there's plenty of lemonade. My favorite fair food is smoked turkey drumstick. They bake the drumsticks, wrap them in foil, and put them on the smoker. I love it. There will be lots of BBQ, corn dogs, funnel cakes and the like as well. I am going to see the speckled chickens and eat a turkey leg and then see what else there is. I'll leave the Tilt-a-Whirl and the funhouse to the kids. There will be a drone show at the grandstand at 9:00 PM, with about 250 lighted drones doing a quiet, non-flammable version of a fireworks show. I'm going to the fair in the evening, after the sun drops a little, since Wednesday will still be under a heat advisory. There is some chance of rain, but I am neither sugar nor salt and will not melt.

Good afternoon
First off, let's everyone in the heat area's be very careful. The heat can zap you before you even know it. We're under a heat advisory until Thursday. Ugh.
Tigersmom I saw that on the news. So sad, so very very sad and senseless. I didn't realize the officer didn't have on his vest.
Carl have fun at the fair.
Iris your photo's are fun to go through. Where are we going next?
Chewy order was just delivered, I need to get it off the porch before the sun cooks Madison's food! Let's be safe out there.
0 -
Eagle, I also order the GPs food, vitamins and arthritis meds from Chewy.. Really convenient. Our FedEx driver says he delivers a lot of Chewy products in this area..
Carl, have a good time at the fair. Our school used to take us and we would stay until late. No longer a fair around here -Tulsa is the closest. Indian tacos are delicious!
Judith, where is your dentist?
Everyone be careful if you go outside. It is really hot here with little wind.. It is 97 with heat index of 113!
0 -
It seems to be everyone’s day to get a Chewy delivery. Mine just arrived.
Lorita, we have 97 degrees and a heat index of 106. I guess it feels hotter because of all the concrete, as you said. The subways, alas, make their own weather.
Judith, yes, i live in NYC. Was born in Toronto and raised in Detroit, but moved here 35 years ago for work. Married a Brooklyn boy six years after i arrived. This is home now.
Carl, that fair sounds like such fun. Turkey legs are delicious — they had them often at the Renaissance fairs in Michigan. And such a healthy choice! The Long Island fairs I have been to are more about deep-fried everything.
eaglemom, the fact that that officer did not seem to be wearing a vest has not come up on the news yet. I am sure it will, because he was shot in a place where it would have protected him. They are cumbersome and hot, and i imagine they are really uncomfortable in this weather. My guess is that since he was working a security detail and not on patrol for the NYPD, he may have felt it was ok not to wear it. Park Avenue and 51st St. is about as safe as it gets here. Or so it would seem.

Edmond.
My granddaughter lives on E 2nd. Moved there from Williamsburg. Her wedding will be in Sept at the
Grange (Sunset Park).Welcome party at Wild East Brewing…After party at Mama Tried. Maybe you know one of those.

I think I first discovered smoked turkey legs at a Renaissance fair near Kansas City, where they were called "swan legs" because turkeys are native to North America, not Europe. They are popular here, at craft fairs and at the County fair.
I once ate "pterodactyl wings" in a restaurant housed in a cave. Tasted just like chicken 😉
Most fair food is not very healthy. DW and I saw chocolate covered bacon at a harvest festival a couple of years ago but didn't try it. The festival was called "Apple Butter Making Days" and was held in downtown Monett, Missouri, a town known for its orchards. Lots of craft and food vendors were there, and some local people were actually making apple butter in a hot tub-sized kettle over a fire. We have quite a few harvest festivals near here in October, I'll have to check out what and where so I can get out of the house.

it's 100 degrees on the front porch, in the shade. Alexa says the heat index is 104. I think it must be higher..I just let Stormy inside and the hot air rushed in. Girls are just outside the yard grazing in the shade. There are trees on the east side of the yard so afternoon late there is shade.

Girls are in he pond, belly deep, or more. Babies wade in the shallow water. Our local news just showed some people getting a cow out of an above ground swimming pool. She had walked out on the cover and fell in.. She was able to get her front legs up on the side but couldn't get out. They got her out with a chain and front end loader. She must have been hot and didn't have a pond to get in so she got in the swimming.pool.
This is National Tiger Day!
Our weatherman just said he was out in a meadow today, cutting probably, and almost got stuck. So we have good subsoil moisture but top soil is getting dry. We need a little rain.

Hi again. I looked at my Journal for a year ago to see what was happening and I was reminded it's been a little over a year (July 26) since we lost Sarah. Time passes so fast.
Good night, everyone. Sleep well.

Trying to catch up with all the posts I've missed! I'm up to porcher pics - what a beautiful group we have; and Iris' beautiful pics of her Scandinavian trip. I will post mine tomorrow.
Just wanted to jump in to ask for prayers for our brothers and sisters in Hawaii. There was an 8.7 or 8.8 earthquake off eastern Russian and there is a tsunami headed towards the islands. They are monitoring closely since there is a possibility if will affect west coast of US. GG, Iris have you heard anything on the news about it?
Stay safe.
Caro

A longer post in a bit …
But yes, Caro_Lynne and others - we're aware and paying attention. It seems it's an 8.8 as of now, which is huge. We're on a tsunami "advisory" until midnight (pacific time) or so. For now authorities want people in my neck of the woods to stay out of, and away from, the ocean, marinas, beaches, etc. You'd think no one would need to have to be told to do this, but sadly it's needed. And Hawaii is already evacuating people from the coasts. The Guardian has a live update here.
2 -
My brother in NY called to warn me about the tsunami. I didn't hear or see any mention on the news until 8:30 pm. Yes, there is an advisory with waves reaching this area at 1:05 am.
Update: now there is a tsunami watch in SoCal @10:30 pm.
Tigersmom, I grew up in Williamsburg. In those days, one of my teachers called it "the social armpit of America". Nowadays, Williamsburg is trendy.
Judith, I belong to a travel club. The owner started out running day trips to local attractions in SoCal. Then she branched out to northern CA, Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. A few years ago she expanded to other states and overseas. She has run trips to Europe, including land and river cruises, to Fiji, to Iceland, to Cuba, to Kenya, to Mexico and to many other places. Next year are trips planned to South Africa and Botswana and to Australia and New Zealand.
Most of the travelers are from SoCal, but we have some join from Arizona and other states. We are mostly retired ladies although there are a few men who travel. About one quarter of the travelers take every trip, so there are many familiar faces. About half are occasional travelers, like me, and another quarter are new to the group.
There were 41 people in our group to Scandinavia. One benefit of the overseas trips is the guaranteed share program. I can request a roommate so I don't have to pay the single supplement.
Eaglemom, next month I will be taking a cruise to Alaska, but with a different group.

Iris - that sounds like Seattle weather. On the longest day of the year the sun rises in Seattle at around 5:10am (so it's pretty light by 4:30am) and it sets at around 9:11pm (still light in the sky at 10pm). At the same time of the year, Norway has 19 hours of sun! We have ~16 hours.
That ride at the amusement park looks like my cup of tea!
I'm pretty sure I've never had lingonberries, but I'd probably like them.
Carl - Good luck at the fair! Lemonade and limeade are my favorite summer drinks. I like to make popsicles out of them too.
JeriLynn - I'm tired just reading about all the stuff you've done. 😄
Mint and HB - When I got onto medicare, I had to switch doctors, so I did, and it's essentially been fine - once we got things straight. I've had a couple of those moments where someone didn't think I was paying attention or that I'm old so I must be stupid. That ended quickly. I don't put up with stuff like that. I don't have many hard lines, but that's one of them.
tigersmom - I read about that! Terrible, indeed.
Carl and tigersmom - Renaissance fairs - omg, it's been so long since I've been to one!
Carl - "pterodactyl wings" - I bet a pterodactyl wing would have been chewy. Their wings are always described as "membranes", so were the wings bat-like? Doesn't sound yummy. 😄
I think we're good on the tsunami front. I've got my phone on just in case.

Just lost my whole post…except for the picture… weird. And now I just HAD to look up why the word "weird" does not follow the "I before E" rule. My brain… quirks. My oldest daughter exclaimed this past weekend "Mama, you are SO EXTRA"… that, for those who may be wondering, is NOT a compliment from DD. HB, I thought of you and your dear Mother in that moment.
Anyway. Mint, we have tomatoes! I think you are the person I with whom I enjoy sharing this news. I think of you every time DH comes in from the garden. DH has found a recipe for canning the cherry tomatoes that is supposed to preserve them for use in salads. I'm excited to see if they still "pop" when you eat them. How cool is that?
Breakfast with my cousin was fun. Then off to errands I went. HB, I didn't make it to the jeweler. Really, the main reason for the planned trip was to get them to create a customer inventory. DH has bought 2 necklaces that are exactly the same stone, but different designs. Also, I want to give them dates of importance so they can call him for a reminder. He is so loving, but I'm a big gift giver on "special" occasions. Him, not so much. He remembers important dates and acknowledges them but seems to be at a loss for words and not understand, that for me, a small token is required, lol. It's ok. He doesn't have a lot of words, but he does other things. Like fence in 10 acres by himself. I guess that's why my DD calls me "extra". I need to do better. And, ps, TJ Maxx was a bust again. Dear SIL is actually worried that my JuJu is off. LOL
Today I am taking DH's great granddaughter shopping for school clothes. She is the one he has legal custody of. She lives with a granddaughter and her family on the Huntland place. She's a Senior this year and will be 18 in February. We have asked her to live with us after graduation as she pursues her chosen field of study (physical therapy) which we will be paying for. DH and his late wife took custody of her when she was 7 or 8. Both parents are now gone. Both drug related. In spite of tragedy, she is thriving. I think because she has been surrounded by so much love and care. So much so that she is very sheltered and has little understanding of how the world works. Again, we'll see what comes. DH thinks everything is fine. I think she needs some experiences that will teach her how to live in this world. We'll see and time will tell.
The tsunami… oh my goodness. When I lived in Yakima, I participated in planning scenario drills as a representative of the hospital. While Yakima is 3 hours by car from Seattle, we prepped for inland possibilities with casualties and relocations. Visiting the Oregon Coast and seeing the warnings posted for evacuation routes was scary. Not unlike Florida for hurricanes, which I have experienced, tsunami seems so much scarier, maybe because I don't have that experience. I don't think anyone else on the Mainland has either, but I could be wrong.
Oliver Kitty has perked up. Acting normal. I think he fell asleep and got too hot. My bad.
HB, I ordered 3 pairs of glasses. 1 red with a funky pattern at the bottom of the frames, 1 blue with some contrasting colors on the frame, 1 pair of solid bright blue with (DD chose) silver reflective lenses for sunglasses. At Costco. DD works there in the Optical department. Can't wait for the new Rx.
Goodness, I've rattled on for days here. Up at 2, it's now 4. I better see what I can throw in the crockpot for dinner since I'll be gone all day again today.
Y'all be safe in the hot today. It was 110* heat index here yesterday. On a good note, my 1 hour foot/leg massage was wonderful and my hair "mostly" held up thru the heat with "BED Head" cream and cheap hairspray, lol.
TTYL.

Good morning! I will be picking my granddaughter up in springfield today for a granddaughter- grandfather day. I am really looking forward to spending the day with her. I'm still staying busy trying to take care of closing out my Louisiana life and starting the Missouri life. I am still working on it, but have a ways to go.

good morning
JeriLynn your tomatoes are beautiful. My cherry tomatoes are good. I got a plant though that was supposed to be a beef steak, I don’t know what it is, but it don’t appear to be a beef steak. Fact, I’m going to cut it down and throw it away. The tomatoes are no good. I get better tomatoes at the Amish. My better boy is got quite a few hopefully they will be good. Then the seeds that I had so much trouble getting up I do have two plants. They both now have small tomatoes on them. The one is black seaman and I know I really like it. The other one is black prince and it’s a new one I’m trying.
Hope your granddaughter does well, sounds like she’s been blessed. So many kids in her position their life does not end up well because they have no one to step in.I hope to pick up more corn to freeze today. My nephew loves corn. Laugh out loud. I’m learning what it’s like to feed a young man. Yesterday evening, I fried up a whole package of chicken tenders and when I got up this morning, they were all gone. I had not ate any of them yet.
A young child in our community died from being in a hot car just a few weeks ago. I think it was totally accidental. There’s been a huge amount of public advertising in our community about this issue. I don’t know of the circumstances here but apparently a lot of kids get in the cars on their own because they’re unlocked and apparently smart enough to get but not smart enough to get out. I keep my car locked all the time because I don’t get in it and find someone else is in there with me. So I guess that is a good habit in general.take care
