The 1970s was when men started wearing shirts that weren't white to work in offices, and we kind of went nuts with it. The same thing happened to houses in the Victorian era when paint first came in colors other than white.
I'm guessing the Masai spears were shipped to the States or maybe checked as luggage. They sure wouldn't fit in the overhead bin of an airplane.
Quilting machines are often paid for by quilting for others. I learned, while accompanying my wife to quilt shows, that there is a cottage industry of machine quilting. A quilter who doesn't own a machine pieces a quilt, then either hand quilts it with needle and thread or pays someone who owns a quilting machine to quilt it for them. Quilting is a true art form when done right. My great grandmother made crazy quilts out of scraps, with no discernible pattern, just to make use of the scraps, but my wife made quilts in patterns. Some of her quilts were made of embroidered blocks.
Those Goth songs remind of the time around 1960 Pat Boone was so popular he bet a friend he could record "Old MacDonald" and it would sell. And he did it, with a syncopated rock n roll beat. "Old MacDonald had a chick, prettiest chick in town . . ."
Elk are beautiful animals. They became extinct here about the time of the Civil War but have been restocked in protected areas in southern Missouri and northern Arkansas and are thriving. The same with turkeys. I never saw a wild turkey when I was a boy, but I saw two in my back yard a few days ago.

Morning, been busy, still have a lot to do. After acupuncture yesterday i went to the Veterans Cemetary in Springfield to register. It is a beautiful, well kept Cemetary. Today I hope to register my car and get Missouri driver's license and handicap tag.
The storage locker with majority of my household was broken into.
Speaking of hot weather........im still being blamed for bringing Louisiana weather to Missouri.

good morning
I know the feeling Judith
tigermom the meatloaf turned out good. I make my meatloaf big balls instead of a loaf so we only have to 20 to 25 minutes. Depends on how big I make the balls. So I feel like every time I eat it I get a fresh piece of meatloaf. The first time I did that I made it in patties because that’s what I read this person did. But I don’t like my meatloaf compact I like it loose and so I wanted to do the balls.I don’t have to pack them near as tight. Maybe you’ll be able to make some soon
HB I asked several people, including the ones who installed my windows and no one for me. So yesterday afternoon I went to Google and Googled professional handy man in my city. So this individual popped up they had a lot of reviews and they were good. I noticed the address was out in the country so I thought OK I’m gonna try this person. This isn’t a major project so they can’t do major destruction lol. So I called him and he said I’ll stop by this evening after work and give you an estimate and he did and then he says I will have a guy here in the morning and he will be in a black truck. Sure enough he’s here. He’s gone to get the part.
Beth it looks like a nice place where you’re staying
take care

Directv tech came this morning and set up my new tv.. One more thing more accomp!ished.. Gary is commg next week to fix the barn shutter and hallway door.. I have a door between the BR and sunroom that is sticking, a front door that I can't lock and the other doors deadbolt won't work. And, the back steps are pulling away from The porch. I keep finding things that need to.be fixed.
.. Darwin brought more vegetables.. I have to figureout what to do with the cherry tomatoes.
Mint, glad you found a handyman to help you. Good ones are few and far betwern. I think that would be something Todd could do.
Ron , how many National Cemeteries does .Missouri have? Oklahoma has one just about a mile from where my family is. It's a beautiful and peaceful place. I'm sure the one in Springfield is, too.. Nice you got your acupunctute.. Is it helping?
Zetta, Wagon Train is on. I have seen it though. I watched Doc Martin quite a while this morning on Ovation channel. You might like that.
Having iced tea and then a nap. Stormy awakened me at 4:30 wanting out. and no sleep after that.

Springfield's national cemetery is a nice place. Many of the 2,000+ men killed in the battle of Wilson's Creek in 1861 were buried there, and it became a national cemetery soon after the Civil War. It is very well kept by the VA and is on the National Registry of Historic Places. The cemetery is in the middle of town now, and can't acquire more land without tearing down houses, so the State of Missouri has established a veteran's cemetery just south of town.
I am aware of only one other national cemetery in Missouri, near St. Louis. I have never been there, but I am sure it is well kept as well.
Lorita, it sounds like your house is settling. You may need a foundation repair service to level it. I hope not, that sounds like a big job.

Carl, it must have settled years ago unless something drastic has happened. It was built sometime around 1900. When we had some remodeling done and combined the LR and DR and two BRs, they found lathing boards with the name of a lumber yard in our town that was blown away in a tornado sometime in the nineteen teens.. It should've settled but who knows. Maybe Gary will have an idea.
I called our County Health Dept. To to see if they were going to give flu or covid shots... They haven't been told but she did say if they were available at pharmacies it might be good to get them.. She didn't know if they would be free. They are getting ready to change over to electronic health records so can't make appts. or take walk-ins. Times are changing.

Good afternoon, rockers. It’s rainy and dreary here today; a good day to spend it in the basement. I’m a little tired now. Washed two down sleeping bags with special down wash; the second one is drying now. Takes a lot of cycles to get them dry. And I washed the first knapsack by hand in the bathtub. Saved the larger one for tomorrow. Removed all the gear so I could see what was in there. DH’s ancient tent is done for, so that will go out with the trash tonight.
GG, thanks for the update on your project. I will look forward to reading when it goes live. I always followed your story with Peggy. And thank you, my DH was a pretty cool guy.Ron, i am so sorry your storage space was broken into. That is terrible. Did you lose a lot? What does the facility have to say about this?
Mint, you have inspired me. Turkey meatloaf will be tonight’s dinner. I make mine in balls, too, only more oval-shaped. Like little footballs.
HB, i just renewed my library card, too. I have more than one library i can borrow from, which works great because i prefer e-books to paper.
Beth, your sleeping elk cracked me up. He sure looks comfy.
And Judith, here’s a pic of the Maasai spears. Like I said, they’re pretty rusty. Any pix of that NY farm-to-table wedding yet?0 -
Good afternoon—
Grey and drizzly here today and a bit on the cool side.
Lorita— When you have a cleaner come, it's best to do a little precleaning around clutter so the professional can get things really cleaning instead of pushing one's clutter around.
Mom's cleaner communicates via text which is not ideal for mom. Her cleaner speaks with a heavy accent that sounds West Indian to me or perhaps African and mom can't really understand that either. A few weeks back the cleaner had to reschedule, and mom was quite upset that she'd already spent an hour tidying when I saw the text.
Gothic G— My friend's current machine was about $800; this would be a bells & whistles model. The two she's looking at do lovely embroidery as well which might come in handy for sewing for her new twin grands. Plus, she'd got issues with her hands including arthritis, and these machines would better control the fabric as its fed into the needle. She has a drug induced retinopathy that prevents her from driving except during daytime. As we lose hours of light here, she'll be quilting up a storm.
Carl— I didn't realize your DW quilted. Some quilters are artisans and a few truly fine artists who work in textiles. My friend is improved; her quilts are better than her dressmaking efforts. She's not selling any of her work, she sometimes has a hard time giving it away.
But my niece's MIL quilts to perfection— her eye for pattern and technical skill is perfection. She does sometimes sell hers. I have a very pretty all hand stitched and hand quilted that was made by my DH's grandmothers. It's twin sized and pink, so not something I ever got to use. I wish I had someone I could pass it to who would appreciate it. It always pains me when I see things like this in thrift stores.
Beth— Those pictures of the elk? Amazing. Is that a resort or more of a VRBO situation? It looks very nice.
Ron— I am so sorry your storage was broken into. Is anything damaged or missing? When I had my parents' stuff in storage, many of the units near me were used by contractors who kept tools and supplies that might have attracted thieves.
Mint— So glad you found someone for your "small job". I like the idea of individual meatloaves. A friend of mine freezes hers in mini-loaf pans.

The garage door tech didn't have the bottom piece he needed, so he'll return tomorrow to complete the job. DH and I got our fall jabs this afternoon. One of the folks I follow on You Tube said there were rumors that the CDC might change the recommendation to 75+. I expect we'll feel ratty tomorrow.

Great wedding pictures, Judith! Your daughter is gorgeous!
We are home. The place we stayed - there were four buildings like the one I took a photo of and four units ("suites") in each building. One bedroom, one bath, full kitchen, living room and deck or patio.
We had fun, but t's good to be home.

Judith, the pictures were real!y good. Your daughter and her new husband look so happy.. Pretty picture of the NY skyline, too.Why did they get married in New York? Guess I missed the reason.
Carl, guess what - I just let Stormy in and the dead bolt worked. That lock working has something to do with the weather or how I hold my mouth when turning it.
Watching Denim & Co for a little while. Showing fall and winter clothing- would like to find a Buffalo Check vest - I like to wear a vest in the winter - keeps your core warmer. Still watching tv in the bedroom. Beth, I bet you are glad to be home after a really good trip. Thank you for all the pretty pictures - my favorite was of the group of elk.
Will say good night. Sleep tight.

Carl - I agree - when the right person does the quilting, it becomes art. So much work goes into the making of one quilt, truly impressive.
Those two goth songs never fail to get a laugh out on the dance floor. My s.o. really likes Teapot. He's been known to walk around the house singing "I'm a teapot, little teapot".
I really like those old cemeteries ….
Ron - I'm so sorry about your storage locker! Any surveillance camera footage available?
tigersmom - Is there any way to rehabilitate those spears? They're mighty impressive.
My thoughts about the blog are that I wanted to provide a list of resources that I found helpful, and then to describe what happened to us. Sometimes it's easier to see what's going on in your own journey when the story is about someone else, because it's difficult to be objective about your own situation. At least that was my experience listening to everyone here. So many times I was wrong about something, and had it gently pointed out to me here.
HB - My s.o. and I are now vaxxed to the max. Glad you guys got your jabs today. I've also heard that rumor about covid shots being available to those 75+ instead of 65+. I also read on the NBC news site that during the hearings today Monarez testified that RFK Jr. talked to an attorney about changing the childhood vaccine schedule — the same attorney who has advocated to the FDA about revoking the approval for the polio vaccine.
Judith - the wedding looks perfectly wonderful. What a good looking bunch of people. I love the bride's bouquet, and I like your daughter's shoes!
Gym was good today, the earthquake bar and boxing were on tap. I'm also working on being able to do one pull-up. Maybe in a month. 😄
Lots of editing and website stuff today, but that's all good.

Patrol car quilts: Springfield police carry small quilts in their cars to give to children who are in trauma, such as being removed from bad homes to go into foster care. The children get to keep the quilts, something to carry with them wherever their new lives take them. I found out about it just about the time DW lost the ability to make quilts, unfortunately, because she would have loved to make quilts for the children. DW wasn't an artist, but she was a craftsman, and she wouldn't do anything unless she could do it "right."
One of the larger churches has a quilt club, and they make lap robe sized quilts to give to nursing home residents. My mother received one and was very pleased.
The senior center is hosting a covid and flu vaccine clinic on September 26. I'll probably get my vax then. I'm over 75, so surely I'll still be eligible even if the rules change. My insurance pays for it and encourages vax. They would much rather pay for vaccines than for hospital stays.
The senior center is also hosting a fall prevention class on September 22, taught by Missouri State University.
GG, I'll bet a really Gothic video could be made of the song about "Teensy weensy spider went up the water spout . . ."

Good morning. It's slow to brighten up this morning. The massive cherry outside my window is starting to turn. It's got quite a bit of red now but might get to bright gold in a week or so. The last 8-10 years it has started to lose leaves in July and was bare by now. I'm very happy about this.
Judith— Thanks for sharing. That is a very NY wedding venue.
That's a fine-looking family. Love your daughter's wrap. I bet it was a great time.
Lorita— I love a vest in cold weather as well. I have a whole wardrobe of down and Gore-Tex from Lands End and Talbots. LL Bean is a good source too.
Gothic G— Did you see this story? It seems buried in the news.________________________________________________________________________
DH and I both had a rough night sleeping. I'm starting to feel a little more human despite the muscle aches, chills and headache. The last time I did senior flu and Pfizer together I was useless for about 36 hours. I'll get mom jabbed on Friday after her haircut. My nephew-in-law has a birthday and we'll need to find something for him. Mom will want to go to a bricks and mortar store and paw at things while I'd rather go online and have it shipped directly to him. He's still into golf, so it'll be easy to find something. Mom loves to buy golf stuff.

Morning.
I love looking at everyone pictures. The condo in Estes Park looked nice. It has so many quaint little shops to look in and just wander about.
DH's appointment went better than I think either one of us thought it would. DH had an MRI of his neck in May & surprisingly the surgeon didn't order a new one. His comment was "oh this shows me all I need to see." He did take x-rays. DH has pinched nerves at C6, C7 & T1. He talked about the inflammation internally quite a bit. What he was concerned about was how DH's entire cervical spine was twisting - from weakness. I was impressed with how he spoke to DH & ask DH question & very patiently waited for DH to answer them. (That scored points with me.) He told DH he had an awful case of 'angry nerves.' He proposed several injections - all to be given at the same time - to reduce swelling and calm everything down. Followed by a very specific PT program specifically for neck. He increased a dosage of a nerve medicine DH was already taking. He said he didn't want to introduce new meds if we could help it & nerve pain only responds to certain medications. Hopefully this helps. DH is pretty miserable so next week can't come soon enough.
Enough of that. Remember the hot tub issue I had? I received the bill for what I'd agreed to pay. However, on the bill was a "Would you like to leave a gratuity?" And, the gratuity began at 25% up to 45%. I chose to leave a no gratuity. How ridiculous. I've waited since Feb., the top is made opening in the wrong direction & they wanted to increase the price. I imagine they'll send a Google review next - which I won't do. ugh.
The Dishwasher & laundry are calling me. More later when I have time to read though everything I've missed. Let's be safe out there.

off to the bank
Glad you liked the wedding share…The wedding was in Brooklyn because the bride/groom live in Manhattan.
The shawl my daughter is wearing was found a couple of weeks ago. It was tucked away in a drawer. It had belonged to my grandmother! It is beautiful…silk and hand embroidered all over..

good afternoon
thank you for sharing the pictures Judith
Lorita after your list I’m not gonna complain anymore lol.
sorry about your storage unit Ron. Makes you feel violated. I felt that way when I went in Sunday and found my mom‘s wheelchair missing. My mom doesn’t even use it anymore. So anyways, I was eventually able to locate it and I brought it to my house, lesson learned.

Good morning Rockers.
Lorita. I know how irritating TVs came be especially for some older people. My DDs TV I know how to turn it on and off, change channels and work the volume, there is so much more that can be done, that I don't really care about. I watch Wagon Train and Gunsmoke, and have seen most of them. I now have been watching The Streets of San Francisco. I really like that, I spent a lot of time in San Francisco, in my younger years, so many of ths places I recognize.
Judith. Those pictures are beautiful, thank you for sharing, those beautiful people and wedding pictures.
Eagle. Pinched nerves sounds like pain. That sounds bad, but it could have been worse. Hopefully the doctor gave him something for pain. It's nice to have a caring doctor, that listens.
Carl. I love the idea of the small quilts for the children. It's probably something they will treasure for the rest of their life. I was a foster child from the age of 8 to 11. Things do get tuff for some of those children.
Sandy. Those horses are beautiful, it's so sad to think how they send some to slaughter, when they no longer have use for them. Your a angel 😇 I also saw that commercial with that pretty dog, it was on this morning.
Mint. You made me hungry for meatloaf, I added that to my grocery list, for this weekend.
Ron. I hope there was not a lot of damage, or things taken from your storage locker. I'm sorry that happen.
I have been really busy getting ready for the move. The drive will start on ths 30th of this month, will probably be 2 days. We have been doing lots of cleaning and packing. The moving company gets here on ths 28th, personal things will go with us. Today I'm going to get my flu shot and get the car serviced.
The next 2 days we are suppose to have lightning, thunder and rain. I'm looking forward to that. Just as much as I'm looking forward to leaving this Arizona, heat.
Good day to all, Hugs Zetta

Zetta, that's about all I do on my TVs - I can set it to tune to certain programs at other times. The tech asked if I wanted streaming hooked up to internet and I told him I didn't want it. Darwin's daughter asked me the same thing when she and her daughter were here weeks ago. She told me if I changed my mind she would connect it for me. At this age I just want to be able to watch whst I want and nothing else.
I used to love Streets of San Francisco. I will look for it.
I just tried to do the dumbest thing (maybe) I have ever done. I have a little basket on the table by my chair where I keep pens and odd cards I get. I was looking in it a few days ago and found two Lowes credit cards that hadn't been activated. I called to activate and they couldn't find the number. told them the expiration date was 2/- looked again and it expired in 1996. Talk about feeling dumb. I.bought the refrigerator from them.but used another card. I just looked at the 2 and thought 26. I should go to bed and stay there! While I was on the phone Sammy, for some reason, stuck his claw in my ankle - hurt like the dickens!
MInt. I try to keep a To Do list but I take off one thing and put on two. Seems like things come in bunches.
Ron, somehow I missed the post about your storage unit.. Did they take things? Around here it seems that the storage units, st least the one near the town where I go, are outside of town, away from other things. Guess they do that to have room for them. Hope you get your things back.
Just turned it to Wagon Train and I have seen it. Probably have seen most of them.

Good afternoon, everyone. Beautiful day here today.
Judith, those pictures of the wedding are wonderful. Everybody looks so happy, and what spectacular views they had from that place. I’m so glad that the weather cooperated.
GG, my neighbors’ friends gave me leads on a few African museums in the city that might want the spears. I am going to call them both.Eaglemom, glad to hear your DH’s appointment went well. That doctor sounds like a keeper.
And Ron, the story of the patrol car quilts is really touching. What a kind and caring thing for the officers to do, and for the people who make the quilts. That was someone's really good idea to make the world just a little bit better.
I knocked it off early today because all this washing and cleaning is making my foot swell again. It looks good when i wake up, and then i start lugging and toting and climbing and it doesn't. I did mush on over to the laundromat to wash the sleeping bag that was too big for my front-loader. And i got two of the clean and dry ones back into their sacks. Boy, now I know why they call it a stuff sack.
I scheduled my covid jab for Wednesday, Our governor signed an emergency order so that anyone who wants it can get it without a prescription, but it was only for 30 days, so I need to get on it. I’ve had six shots, but I’m dragging my feet because i get just about every side effect they list. I know I won’t feel great for a few days afterward.
My turkey meatloaf turned out great. It’s a good thing, since I’ll be eating it again tonight. Still trying to master this business of cooking for one.
Hope everybody has a good day.

Back from bank…opened the account for the LLC and shared photos with everyone back and forth.

You've had a.busy day. Judith. Hope you have a good nights sleep. Watching Doc Martin on Ovation channel. Good night, everyone.

Carl - I love that the police department gives kids quilts. I bet it really helps the kids.
A goth song about teensy weensy spider? Well, it's got "spiders" in the title so you're halfway there! 😄
HB - I saw that article late in the evening after I had posted here. The other thing that's happening is CA-OR-WA have formed an alliance to keep vaccines in our states. I think I read that some east coast states have done a similar thing.
My question is who controls access of vaccines? Is that a CDC thing? I know absolutely nothing about this.
Hope you're feeling better now.
Zetta - I can't wait until all of you head to Boise. You sound like you are just done with Arizona - and I don't blame you. I'd never be able to deal with that heat.
Lorita - Every time I hear you mention Doc Martin, I think of the shoes - Doc Martens. Most goths have a pair or two of them. Then I looked up Doc Martin - it looks like a show that I'd enjoy!
My trainer called in sick today (I'm thinking covid), so I went to the gym on my own. I did a couple of miles on the treadmill, did some abs, and called it a workout.
Then on to some adulting - bill paying and other bureaucracy. I told my s.o. that I need someone to do all of that adulting stuff for me, I'm kind of tired of it. I only want to do the stuff I want to do. Yeah, not going to happen. 🙂

Good morning!
DS and I had a great day trip yesterday. We went to Kansas City on a group trip to see the Royals play the Mariners. Saw a really good game and rode the bus home in a thunderstorm. I was so glad a professional was driving instead of me.
Last night was the first good rain we've had in months.
