Early onset support group in Illinois

My spouse has early onset Alzheimer's . We live in Elgin Illinois and I was wondering if there are any support groups that meet maybe weekly in the Northern Illinois area. I feel like it would help greatly if she could meet with others who have reduced memories in a small group setting. They have a memory cafe here that meets monthly but we found them useless.

    Hi Jim2918!

I am helping with my best friend who has early onset Alzheimer's. Her husband farms, and they have no children, so I go out to the farm to check in and keep her company. She recently met another woman with early onset, and they have visited by phone/ online a couple of times. I know how lonely and isolated she feels since she can mo longer work or drive, and I imagine your wife may feel the same. Living in rural Iowa, there isn't a group nearby for my friend to attend.

If you would like to connect, feel free to send a message, and perhaps we could set up a time for them to visit over the phone, or video chat.

I'm sorry for you and your family. I live in NH, and we do not have a local group, but the Alzheimer's Association has many virtual options. I was diagnosed in 2023, and they offered a virtual support group that connected me with people just like me. It has been a Godsend. Although we no longer have an official group, we still meet weekly. My husband and wonderful caregiver also has a group for caregivers. I would highly recommend reaching out the Association. I happen to have a card - here is the number 800-272-3900. Kerry
