It’s been awhile since I posted. My mom, 73, has been in MC for over a year. This past month she went from being okay to almost completely mute. No UTI. Her suite mate was her security/friend. But she started having bad mood swings and taking it out on my mom. My mom has since become withdrawn and just this past weekend…silent. She doesn’t come out for meals. She thinks everyone is making fun of her. Idk what to do. She is supposed to move into a different room this week. Thinking separation from her friend would be good but I’m heartbroken. I can get her to stop crying or being sad. Not even for a moment. I called her psych today who will see her on Thursday. I’m at such a loss.

So sorry about your Mom. She needs meds for anxiety and depression. I too think the move will help. She is unable to comprehend her friend’s behavior. Is her doctor a Geriatric Psychiatrist? They are the best type of doctor to manage meds for dementia. Some caregivers have given their loved ones a doll to care for and it helped.

Your poor Mama— it's so hard for us to deal with dementia behaviors and it must be especially painful to have it and get treated unfairly because of her roomies disease progression.

Pondering, too bad the roommate can't be moved instead [maybe to geripsych for an adjustment stay] so your Mom can stay in her room -but she's another family's worry.

I hope that the memory and hurt fade fast for your Mom when she is moved.

thank you. Yes, it’s a geriatric psych. She’s on lexapro and remeron. I’m hoping they can tweak the dose. I feel so bad for her. I wish I could take her home with me. /-(

I know I was thinking of asking for her roommate to move. But the room my mom will move to is cleaner, has its own bathroom and in a quieter location. I think it will be better for her.

I just hope the move is as smooth as it can be. Thank you
