Caregiver Challenges

I lost my mother in February this year. She was diagnosed with dementia (non-specific) while in the hospital dying of cancer (third time). My (half) brother refused to become her husband/his father’s caregiver. I stepped up and offered to be my stepfather’s caregiver. He now lives with my husband and I. I started out strong but now, nine months later I am struggling. I have done research and know (logically) not to correct him, reason with him or take his behavior personally. But I occasionally get (emotionally) overwhelmed and do all three. I am still grieving the loss of my mother which makes this even harder. One of my daughter’s is available occasionally to sit with him while I go to church or run errands. My husband refuses to have a caregiver (‘stranger’) in our home and I can’t afford therapy. I’ve joined this group to hopefully gain some insight.
