My DH to begin Leqembi infusions

My 82 y/o DH has been diagnosed with Alzhemer's and qualifies for these infusions that will start soon. Anyone else here have experience with this medication.

Unfortunately, after going through all the preparation for starting infusions, my DH’s neurologist ultimately said it wasn’t appropriate. He became basically non ambulatory and incontinent, and thus, was too far along in his symptoms. I hope it is an effective treatment for your DH. Wishing you (both of you) well.

While the drug modestly slows cognitive decline, it is not a cure and comes with risks like brain swelling and bleeding (ARIA), which require careful monitoring with regular MRIs and genetic testing. The treatment is typically administered via an IV infusion every two weeks. You can search for Leqembi on this forum and read all the old posts. The search thingy is at the top of the page. My DH will be starting leqembi soon. We were fortunate that he was diagnosed early and after testing, is able to get the infusions. We did much research and while there are side effects, for us it is worth the risk. We are confident in our medical team and the protocol calls for very close monitoring. All of which made the decision much easier. My DH is 73.

Thank you, DonnaPJ. I'm reading lots of posts regarding leqembi in this community. So helpful. My DH will receive his treatment at Rideout Cancer Center in Marysville, CA, located an hour from where we live.

my DH is 57 and qualified, but after 6 treatments we had to stop becuase of ARIA.

My husband has taken seven treatments of Lequembi. He developed micro brain bleeds detected by the brain MRI given at appropriate times. We paused treatment for two months until this issue was resolved. We restarted treatment last week.

My husbands feelings were a possible 30 percent slow down is much better than 0 percent, meaning doing nothing.

It was his decision to continue, not mine. I see very little improvement. The risks to me outweigh the benefits . That’s my personal opinion. I wish you the very best.
