    Good morning.

Well now I have to decide if I'm cooking 15 bean soup or ham & beans for dinner. Oh the power of suggestion. And of course corn bread will go perfectly with either one.

Someone ask about my Christmas trees. Yes, I decorate the one in the den for each holiday. Each year I either add to or remove something to change it up somewhat. The tree in the formal dining room is decorated slightly differently. It has a spring theme then I add birds for summer. For all its decorated in fall flowers and then Christmas. It has a more 'formal' feel.

I was caught by DH when I was trying to remove some of the Christmas decorations yesterday. I just casually said I was dusting - which I was - and thought I'd move this to a different spot. I placed them on a different table and he was very happy. Phew…..

Time to get my beans going. Let's be safe everyone. Back later to check on y'all.

Seems like everyone on the porch is hungry for good food. I will mention one other item, always make sure you have some good ole Louisiana hot sauce available. Louisiana hot sauce will improve any meal on the table if needed. I always carried a bottle with me in Vietnam.

Beth, that is a pretty sweater. I have always liked Talbot's clothing and DW had some of it. And some Alfred Dunner, especially in the last few years. No, I have never made any attempt to learn to eat with chopsticks. I could use more hobbies now that I am retired, maybe I'll take it up. I used to know a man who had a pair of ivory chopsticks in a little leather case, and he brought them when we ate in Asian restaurants. I do get some pretty good meals. I eat well and sleep warm and am grateful for it.

Ron, if you ever decide to eat lunch at the senior center you should bring a bottle of hot sauce. The food is good but pretty bland.

DS and I went to Ziggie's diner today for breakfast. I had French toast made with cinnamon swirl bread and a cup of good coffee. Ziggie's always has French toast, but cinnamon French toast is an off-menu special. It's really good and I usually order it when they offer it.

I use kidney beans but will try red beans next.. can't imagine red beans and rice w/o andouille. My now closed meat market leads me to a search for andouille. Maybe Whole Foods.

Beth, I need to start making smoothies. In my grocery delivery yesterday I had four cartons of yogurt. Something went awry, usually get only two. It's okay because I eat lots of yogurt. Also have begun using unsweetened almond milk. The carbon I got yesterday is good until April so it lasts longer than cow's milk which I also drink.

Ron, I like Louisiana hot sauce. I put it on lots of things, can't eat scrambled eggs without it. Also beans which is today's topic, I think. Guess I will take those brown (pinto) beans out of the freezer and find the frozen cornbread. I always cook a pound and freeze some.

Judith, guess you'te talking about Darwin thinking he had a TIA. He seems pretty good today, not dizzy. He just called and said he was going to stay inside this afternoon and rest. I woke up last night and turned over quickly and had.vertigo so am being careful today.

Beth, Sheena and Stormy seem.better. She is getting up by herself.but when she is outside she comes to the bottom step and barks for me to hold her collar as she comes up the steps. She has fallen backwards twice so needs the reassurance holding her collar gives her.

Thanks, Iris. I have peppermint oil. Right now I'm putting mothballs and cedar branches under the hood when I'm not driving. I still smell Grandpa Gus when I open the doors.

Eagle, I remember Charles would get upset when I moved furniture around. Guess the just need things to be the same all the time.

Carl,I never learned to eat with chopsticks either. Chinese was our favorite food when we ate out and even made it at home. I can make a meal on fried rice.

Love the sweater, Beth. Guess I need one with a cow on it. I do have a mug with a cow on it that Sidney gave me.

Sorry this is so long but had a lot to say. Now to get those beans out of the freezer and find the cornbread. You know fried potatoes go well with beans!

I think it's great they're having a party for her. At 98 she deserves it. Will you be going?

Found a new vet show I really lIke-Dr. Jeff, Rocky Mountain Vet. I had never watched it before tonight. He has a big clinic with several vets. Still like Dr. Pol though.

    Iris,

Isn’t it funny when someone say’s something that just the way it’s said reminds you of a song. You just did that to me when you said “I like red beans and rice”. That reminded me of a song by the newbeats “I like bread and butter”. Got me to singing; I like bread and butter, I like toast and jam.

HB - omg, I remember that commercial for Pace. For some reason I put the Pace commercial in the same box as the one for M&Ms - these cards are marked! They're a mess. They're a chocolate mess!

If I'm just out and about, like at the gym, I'll wear a vog mask. If I'm somewhere really confined, like a plane, I'll wear an N-95.

Beth - I like your horse sweater.

Funny, I can only rarely pull off something from Talbot's. I like their clothing, but it's just formal enough that I can't quite pull it off.

eaglemom - I was one of the ones who asked about your tree. I like that you have them up for all of the holidays. That's cool.

Ron - and about food? I'm very up for cornbread now. 🙂 What is Louisiana hot sauce? Is it a particular brand?

    Carl - yummm, french toast.

Iris - Wow, 98! I'm glad her family and friends are throwing her a party!

Lorita and Zetta - when I posted that link to the TV show, Firefly (←- that's the title song), I forgot to mention that I think the two of you might like it - it's a space western. It's got a few sci-fi elements (they fly around in a space ship, after all), but it's essentially a western. It's also quite witty. There's only about 14 episodes of it though, so if you like it (as many of us did), that's all there is. Well, plus one movie, Serenity. Here's a link to the wikipedia page on Firefly, so you can see if it looks appealing.

As for me, I'm up at least until 2am. I started streaming at around 9pm, and am going until 2am. I very occasionally do this on a Saturday night. Tonight's musical genre is psytrance. Not my favorite, but it's what this group likes, so I aim to please. If I were at all dedicated to this, I'd just set up a Twitch stream, but I'm not.

We've been living in carb heaven beginning yesterday. Today we had enchiladas (no cheese for me), and tomorrow I'm making lava cakes for dessert.

Monday I'm starting the ABCs (no alcohol, no bread, and no processed carbs) and I'm doing a boot camp for the week! A good way to start the year, I guess. 😄

Morning cold and sunny. I let the GPs out but I'm staying in bed a while.

I can't find my Louisiana.hot sauce. Guess I used all of it. Gotta get more. It is a brand, GG. Really good flavor, hot but not as hot as Tobasco. We kept both kinds because Charles liked the hotter kind. If I have scrambled eggs will have to break out the salsa. I like toast and jam, too-blackberry.I also like peach preserves mixed with peanut butter on toast. Just had that for breakfast with OJ mixed half and half with cranberry juice and a splash of pomegranate juice. Having my hot tea now.

Good morning. False spring turned out to be a bust here and we're back to seasonal temps.

Beth— Thanks for the video. It's mostly an overview but it does point out some differences since the last time I did this in 2018. The thing that struck me was that they used the same script my ortho used to "sell" this as a truly outpatient procedure. Like verbatim.

I recall that sweater. Every time I get a customer survey from Talbots I ask for something cat themed. I mean, there are an awful lot of us. They continue to ignore my suggestion.

Eaglemom— Mom left a tree up for 4 months when I was a kid. She decorated for Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day and Easter that year. I have no idea why she got so stuck on keeping it up; we lived in an 880 sq ft home at the time. I begged her to take it down in time for my 10th birthday party and she finally relented that afternoon. Her retina specialist's office decorates for all holidays and seasons. They have a tree that's currently decorated with Philadelphia Eagles (Go Birds!) themed things. SMH.

Judith— I hope you can find andouille. I find it even in the most mainstream supermarkets here.

If mom were like a normal adult, gift cards would be the answer but she's child-like in her need to open packages. When we did "family Christmas", almost half the packages were for her, and the rest were for the five of us. Much of what she got was random little things— lip balm, marinated artichoke hearts, a case of Trident.

Lorita— I'm glad the dogs seem improved. That must make you feel good.

Iris— My aunt's circle of friends celebrates milestone birthdays with a party, but they stopped the surprise aspect at 80. I hope your family friend enjoys her special day.

Gothic G— I agree, you'd be hard pressed to find anything at Talbots that would work with your aesthetic. Maybe the odd black lace blouse from the winter occasions release but otherwise it's too cheery even for the likes of me.

    _________________________________________________________________________

Speaking of Talbots, I exchanged a sweater from a friend for size. The local store ordered it for me on the 6th. The delivery estimate is 1/13 but it seems to be taking the scenic route through the USPS. It left Indianapolis on the 7th, was scanned into Philadelphia's Mail Distribution Center on the 8th and 9th. It arrived in my town's PO on the 10th and has since been scanned in twice 5 hours apart in Philadelphia again.

I need to make a Costco run but I'm not feeling it.

I hope all have a pleasant day.

    Good morning.

Ron and Lorita, when my travel group were in Louisiana we visited the Tabasco place. It's on an island and we learned how the peppers were grown. That's also where we saw a huge alligator sunning itself with a foolish woman standing just a few feet away.

JeriLynn hope you are well.. Haven't seen a post from you lately. How are all the babies, growing like weeds, I bet.

Iris, was that New Iberia? We used to raise lots of peppers. My favorite was a sort of yellow bell type pepper -not hot. Charles liked jalapenos. There was a tam jalapeno that was half as hot and still had the good flavor.

Watching Denim &Co. And the.host half tucks all her tops. Jus wondering -do you ladies tuck? Not me, way past that. I like tunics.

gg….Louisiana-style hot sauce is distinct for its simple recipe of aged cayenne peppers, vinegar, and salt, creating a tangy, fermented flavor that's less about intense heat and more about a balanced, savory kick, unlike sauces focused purely on extreme spice. Key differences include its vinegar-forward profile, reliance on milder cayenne peppers (vs. hotter varieties), significant salt content, and a foundational fermenting process for depth, making it a classic staple for everyday meals.

    It is flavor not heat!

    Hello Front Porch Friends.

Iris. Im not home bound, i can get out as much as I want. I still drive, but i prefer my DD to do the driving. I guess I'm kind of a loner, I don't like groups of people, so a senior center would not work for me. We got out yesterday and actually did some grocery shopping. Most of are groceries are delivered from Walmart. We are getting to know where places are. We even have a favorite Starbucks. We are just outside of big town Bosie. We are not close to all the freeway and traffic.

Beth. I love your sweater, i have one like that but mine has a dog on it. I also make smoothies, I use carnation instant breakfast one cup of milk and a frozen banana. This way I can have a vanilla, chocolate or strawberry smoothie.

GG . Thanks for the info about the space westerns, that would be too deep for me, I like the cowboys the Indians and the covered wagons.

Lorita. It's nice hearing that the GPs are doing better. Molly is 11, she seems to be aging well. If I could get some weight off of her, that would be good.

Take care all, your in my thoughts, Hugs Zetta

    Good evening all.

My 15 Bean Soup turned into Chicken Tortellini Soup! I was hungrier for it than the 15 bean I guess. (Really I was hungry for the cheese tortellini's in the soup!) It's really one of our favorites. Bonus is leftover's for another meal.

It was a nice day out today, coolish, but nice. Someone in the neighborhood has been smoking something all day. Goodness does it ever smell wonderful outside. Even the dog stands in the yard with her nose in the air sniffing!!! If I were to guess, it would be a brisket since its cooked literally all day.

Very surprisingly our week only has eye appointments. I've not scheduled DH's PT yet. I'm certain they won't be able to get him in this week, which is just fine with me. I've been doing his home program with him. He's stronger but its not done anything about his head tilt. We won't be doing any surgery if I have my way. DH will maybe ask for a Tylenol once a day or once every two days. That's not pain that needs to be addressed via surgery, IMO.

We had lunch out at a place called Shuck Me. So good and fresh. But now, alas, DH is needing his dinner. Everyone be safe.

    Good morning!

Eagle, I'm glad your DH isn't in a lot of pain. I agree, Tylenol occasionally is less pain med than I take and I am nowhere near wanting surgery.

Zetta, I'd be less interested in the senior center too if I lived with family and pets. Since I'm pretty social and live alone, it is a blessing to me. I was shooting pool in the pool room the other day, and it was very different from shooting pool in a bar. No beer, no betting, no spittoons. I found myself called into a prayer circle to pray for a woman who had fallen and been hospitalized. You'll never see that happen in a commercial poolroom!

Yep, another of many sleepless nights, guess just to much on my mind.

I haven’t hardly been out since being back from my Louisiana trip. Thought I would try making it to the senior center today, but don’t know if I even have the energy to put my pants on, maybe tomorrow. I have promised DIL and granddaughter that we would go for a pedicure Wednesday and lunch afterwards. I also mentioned to son and daughter in law that maybe if we went out dancing Friday or Saturday I would get my groove back. Might need to just sit back and watch unless someone nice lady was strong enough to keep me from falling. Just slow dances, no twisting the night away!

Good morning. It's cold here but very sunny for a change.

Lorita— That host is doing a "French tuck". The cool kids have been doing this a couple of years now. I've tried it but for the life of me I can't quite make it look right.

FTR, I do tuck most of my shirts and blouses as well. Exceptions would be tunic length athleisure or something linen. I look dumpy otherwise.

Iris— Tabasco is DH's choice of hot sauce. He will accept no substitutes. DS has a broader palate; he enjoys original Tabasco, their Scorpion version, Cholula for Mexican food and sriracha as well.

Lady Z— What do you like about this particular Starbucks? We have 3 within 1/2 mile of each other— one in the supermarket, one freestanding in the shopping center that is chaotic and my favorite on our main street in an old pharmacy building with seating inside and out. I hang there when I have my car serviced.

Eaglemom— A week with one appointment is a good week. I have 3 this week— dentist for me tomorrow and mom has a doubleheader Thursday— pulmo and infectious disease. Ugh. I have questions for pulmo— the X-ray she had Friday describes an aortic stent in place. She has no such device— she has a TVAR in place. Seems sloppy? Or am I being pedantic.

Carl— I wish mom had a senior center available to her. She could use the socialization.

Ron— The pedi date sounds fun. I have one planned next week. Who gets to pick the restaurant?

    _________________________________________________________________________________________________

For those following the saga of my sweater, it was returned to my local PO and is allegedly out for delivery. Hopefully to my house and not some random neighbor. Our regular carrier is awesome, so my hopes are high.
