Artimu II lands this evening….they say that this is the most dangerous part of the journey….11 parchutes will be used to slow them down.

Iris…looks like a comprehensive tour. This is my very favorite thing in Florence and will not be on your tour:

The frescoes in the Convento di San Marco in Florence, painted by Fra Angelico and his workshop (c. 1438–1443), are a renowned Renaissance masterpiece designed for meditation. Located in the monks' dormitory cells, corridors, and cloister, these frescoes include the famous Annunciation and Crucifixion scenes, offering intimate, devotional imagery in their original setting.

    Ron…thanks for keeping us updated

JL…what do you do with all the goats??? I checked and am able to have one in my yard. I can have chickens but that doen not seem like fun.

Findings: In the interval the right upper lobe and the left lower lobe infiltrates have completely cleared. Similar position of the hemidiaphragms. Heart size is now normal. No focal pulmonary consolidation, pleural effusion, pulmonary edema, or pneumothorax. The cardiomediastinal silhouette is within normal limits.

Now I should be cleared for surgery,

Hi Everyone, warm and windy here. JeriLynn when you said that was probably more than anyone wanted to know about goats, it reminded me.of my friend, Karen.. I talked about the girls a lot and she would say that was more than she ever needed to know about cows. She was a city girl and thought we lived in the boonies.

Ron,probably a good idea to stay in the hospltal overnight even though you would prefer to be home.

Stormy and I just got back from town. He was ready to go but both of us were glad to be home. He had never been to town before. The vet clinic is about a mile north of town, on the highway but in the country so he doesn't go to town when he goes there.

Got a hundred pounds of sweet feed for Billy. Divided it into 25 lb. sacks when I got home and put three in a covered trash can by the front gate. Brought one inside. While I was doing that I called Billy and told him I had feed for him. He knows his name and came out of the barn to eat. It has a lot of molasses on it so he will like it. You know the last time I bought feed, probably three weeks ago,it was $8. For 50 lbs. Today it was $11. If you bought a ton it would be $60 more than before. Everything is up.

Diesel at flying J this morning was $5.69. If I filled the PU it would be over $170- used to be about $75. Glad I'm not commuting now.

Iris,Simon and Seven are sweet looking. Do you.board them when you are gone or does a neighbor feed them?

    Back later.

    Good afternoon.

Ron that sounds like a good report. I'm glad your son and DIL are taking turns staying home with you. Let them and let them help you out. Now, my sermon is over!

Cute animal pictures. I always love everyone's pictures.

GG back to SC in two weeks? An air mattress on the floor? Oh goodness. After the first night I believe I'd be sleeping in a chair or on a sofa, anywhere but on the floor. My knees and getting up just wouldn't be something I'd subject myself to having to do. Ugh. At least she's being reasonable about knowing she needs to move. That has to make it a tiny bit easier.

HB your knee bend is fantastic. Just remember it takes a good year for your knee to entirely heal, so its very easy to over do it. Just be careful.

We have an 'odd' event to attend tomorrow. A friends daughter was married in Nov. It was in historic Ft. Worth with a civil ceremony. It was also a very small guest list - 75ish or so people. Even though I was there when this girl was born (26 yrs ago) and have watched every milestone of her life, we we're invited. It was explained to me the "couple" wanted only family & their friends. Frankly it truly was & is fine. But I do know other people were invited. So tomorrow they are having a rewedding, for lack of a better word. This one is at the Catholic Church. The couple really doesn't care about it, but her mom (my friend) has thrown such a HUGE fit that she "has to be married in the church." I don't want to offend anyone here, but frankly, I'm personally struggling with this. They've been married since Nov, and lived together prior to that. I just don't get it. It simply seems wrong to me. (I've spoken to several others whom are also scratching their heads over it.) She's not wearing a wedding gown, she's rented a dress. We are to attend this at the church then go back to my friends house for a party. Not a reception, but a party. It's just leaving a bad taste in my mouth. Can y'all help me wrap my mind around this? DH has pretty much said he is totally opposed to attending the rewedding, but if I ask he'd do it. Of course I don't want to hurt my friends feelings but goodness, I just don't get it. Help!

Sorry for the ramble. I'm curious if anyone else has ever heard of someone being married twice. Let's be safe everyone.

Eagle, I have heard of people renewing their vows on a special anniversary, years after their marriage. Doesn't sound like this is the same thing though. If you don't feel comfortable going, I wouldn't. Sounds like you all may have felt a bit bad about not being invited to the wedding so I wouldn't feel bad about not going to this one. You can find a good excuse if you like, or not.

    @eaglemom

I nodded in solidarity about your comment and not subjecting your knees to getting up. At my PT session on Tuesday, we worked on getting up off the floor; I like to do yoga, mat Pilates and cut out fabric on the floor so a critical skill. I can do it, but it involves walking my hands back to my feet which is extra dodgy given my damaged wrist tendon.

I personally wouldn't be horrified by a second "wedding" for a couple already married. Any excuse for a party.

FWIW, the daughter of a dear friend did something similar. She was raised a Presbyterian while her groom is a Roman Catholic but wasn't attending regularly or affiliated with a local parish. She didn't want to get married by some new-to-her priest in a church that wasn't hers. Her MIL-to-be, an otherwise lovely lady, was really pushing the Roman Catholic wedding agenda and the couple's kneejerk was to push back. They decided on her minister doing a ceremony at an historic house with a big reception after. (I made the bridesmaid's dresses) MIL continued to offer to host a religious blessing at her parish at every opportunity. Fast forward a few years and a baby-on-the-way and the agreed to travel to his parents' for a small Church ceremony/blessing and dinner after. The bride wore the sort of dress one might wear to a garden party.

Is the mother-of-the-bride driving this? I guess it's nice that the "bride" is going along with it for her mom.

Carl - I'm glad we made it home too. Although, if they want to deport me to, say, Portugal, Italy, or Spain (someplace warm with good food), I'd probably take 'em up on it. 😄

I've spent a lot of time using a thermarest too - I've always loved camping, and that was my air mattress of choice. I wonder if I still have it. It's small, and I could certainly carry it on a plane. 🤔 And you're right, it's warm.

Iris - that's my thought too about my mom-in-law. Once we get her settled in and her new apartment looks like home, she'll be a lot less stressed. She's a good egg, that one, and we all want her to be comfortable and happy.

Seven and Adam. I showed my s.o. your cat photos and he looked at Seven and said "a kitty emeritus." They're both beautiful.

HB - oh my gosh, your mom! She looks totally in her element at Costco though. Fashionable, too.

Congrats on graduating!! How is your knee feeling now?

Don't I wish I could avoid that air mattress! But I think it's in the cards for me. But maybe if I can find my thermarest mat ….

Ron - I know it's a pain to stay overnight, but I'm kind of glad they're going to keep you. They'll keep an eye on you and make sure all is well.

JeriLynn - I'm glad Gigi is still around! I've been afraid to ask. It seems like goats kind of come and go, and I wasn't sure where she was in the scheme of things. I like hearing about, and learning about the goats. There's just so much to know, and being a city girl, I don't know any of it (but I'm learning).

    Hi Mint!

We're getting house projects done on my far corner of the porch. Wireless upgrade this afternoon. Next week are the sliding doors to the atrium. It's time to replace some windows, so I'm looking around at those too.

I've been working away on the blog. I've got almost half of the entries posted now. Karyn and I figure we'll be done posting by mid-August if all goes well. Hard to believe. It took me more than a year to gather all of my notes, organize them, and then create a series of posts from them. And now, I'm almost done.

I'm not Catholic, but I think the bride's mother may feel her daughter isn't really married unless she is married by a priest. If that is the case, I can see why she wants a church wedding. It will be just as "legal" with or without you, so if you don't want to go to a party you have every right to stay away IMO.

On the other hand, your invitation may be your friend's way of making amends for her daughter excluding you from the wedding. If you value the friendship, you might want to get dressed up and go have a good time. I don't often skip a chance to party with old friends.

I thought I was having a stressful day until I realized the Artemis II is due to splash down in about three hours. The crew is in space suits, not gloved or helmeted yet, according to NASA's live broadcast. Fingers crossed!

eaglemom - I know!! (the air mattress). I have no business sleeping on that thing. The kicker with it is that because MIL has so much stuff in that room, the air mattress takes all of the remaining available space. There's nowhere to walk. In order to get up from the mattress, I have to kind of back up on hands and knees. It's not ideal. I really am considering looking for my old thermarest mat.

About the wedding…. I was raised Catholic, and I believe Carl is right - the mom probably doesn't believe that they're really married unless they get married in the church. My mom was like this too. My sister got married in the church and my mom was happy, but I did not (my husband is Jewish). I heard about this for years.

I know of several people who have done two weddings. One of my close friends married an Indian man, and that wedding was the big, traditional Indian wedding you've probably seen on TV. Then they had a second "American" wedding.

I don't know about your friend's family dynamics, but it sounds like the daughter is trying to placate her mom about the church (there might be drama in the background). If it were me, I'd probably just set aside the weirdness, and just go to the party. It'll probably be fun.

Judith you have to get 2. Goats are very social herd animals; having just one isn’t advisable. They don’t do well.

I'm finally back. Last night I did something I hadn't done deliberately since my youth, which was to pull an all-nighter. I stayed up all night to gather my tax documents and to put things in some semblance of order. This took me from 8 pm until 6 am. I got a few hours of sleep, then ran some errands. I found two uncashed checks from last year which I deposited. I had to run out to copy a few things because I don't have a copier.

I was missing one document but found it in a pile of junk mail. I did manage to watch the splash-down, that was exhilarating! I had planned to get the papers to the accountant today, but I will do that tomorrow. I have to take Adam to the vet's place to get dematted also tomorrow.

Ron, will you have physical therapy after your surgery?

Lorita, Simon and Seven are waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge. I now have Adam and Sammie. I take them to a pet hotel when I travel. The place is actually a doggie-day care facility, that also offers overnight boarding for dogs and has a cat room. I usually have my male cats stay in the Purrsidential Suite. The girl cats stayed in the Kitty Condo because they were more shy and were dominated by my male cats in the small environment.

Judith, that convent looks interesting. We will be doing a lot of sightseeing, but mostly eating, since this is a gastronomic tour.

I agree with Lorita, goats are herd animals, so you would need to get a few. Did you know they "baa" really loudly?

JeriLynn, I'm imagining you trying to get Pepto-Bismol down a goat's throat! I hope you don't often need that remedy. I purchased a bottle of goat milk hand lotion and goat milk soap at the goat farm. Goat milk products are said to be especially good for sensitive, rashy skin. This farm did not raise dairy goats, if you get my drift.

GG, I hear you on your mil's place, either all that clutter. She will be so happy to live without clutter, even if she doesn't verbalize it. All that clutter is draining!

At the Madonna Inn, where we stayed for one night, every room has a theme. My room had a fireplace on the patio. Another woman raved about her bidet, with two jets, front and back. And her toilet seat was heated. She couldn't stop talking about these features. I would have traded my fireplace for a heated toilet seat, myself.

HB, I can only get my two knees to bend 90 degrees. 120 degrees sounds fantastic! I hope you stay so limber! Thanks for the meteor video. I've tried for years to see a meteor, I think I saw one once, on the ocean.

Eagle, I had a civil wedding ceremony at city hall and I wanted a later church wedding, but that was not to be for me. I don't find the idea of two weddings unusual at all.

Well, it's getting late. I dont want yo stay up again. Good night.

Good morning, all. It's a beautiful spring day here. Sunny and in the upper 60s for a high. I don't know if I should fix something nice for dinner or insist DH take me out. Our usual Saturday night couple-date is on hold because of travel.

Ron— That X-ray looks better than any report in mom's chart. Looks like you're good-to-go!

Carl— DS was very into the Artemis mission. He was giving us reports, shoving his phone in my face, in real time. DH and I who were around for the original space race still get a little spooked having seen things go really badly.

A couple of DS's old scout buddies are employed around the space programs. One used to design gloves for Blue Origin and later was involved in sending Katy Perry to space. I gave him a hard time for bringing her back. LOL. The other is in Houston. He's an astrophysicist versus the other being an engineer.

Iris— That cat room sounds very like where I used to bring my cats when they got older. They had cat apartments with windows overlooking the woods and birdfeeders and fish tanks for their entertainment.

Mom's bidet is heated. It would take some getting used to.

That trip should be amazing. I imagine you'll be served some amazing wines as well. It's difficult to find a disappointing Italian wine.

Gothic G— The air mattress situation sounds worse the more details you supply. Do they have a spare room available for respite stays?

I hope all have a pleasant day.

Also difficult to find disappointing food in Italy.

Iris…will you participate in any of the cooking? Any way we can see the itinerary. You are so good at photos maybe you can just take a snap and post it. BTW, the convent is very close to the David statue and an easy walk from downtown Florence. I happen to be fascinated with frescoes and these are probably the best you can find. My dissertation was on frescoes and the history thereof.

I think the world sighed with relief when the astronauts were off loaded!

No sister report yesterday. My daughters MIL made it to the hair dressers for a good shampoo and color.

Bulky trash pickup Monday. Lots to go to the curb. Also more bags to Goodwill and homeless shelter.

Baaaaa…had not thought about goats being loud…lol

My yard, treated with pre-emergent and fertilizer, looks horrible. UGH!!!

Lorita…no caladiums this year for me and I bought large boston ferns for the porch pots. Looks great.

    Good morning.

We are anticipating rain in SoCal. Some people are happy because our snowpack was low this year, due to high temperatures, so our reservoirs will be depleted. Other people are wary of flooding and mudslides and road closures.

In the Palos Verdes Peninsula area, which has been impacted severely by geologic movement resulting in homes falling off cliffs, 1,000 goats have been brought in to remove dry fire hazards like brush, grasses and other vegatation.

Judith, I doubt very much that I will do any cooking. This is more of a tasting tour than a cooking tour. Cooking was never mentioned!

The itinerary is somewhat vague. I'll let you know a little later.

Good morning. Partly sunny and 70 here, chance of showers this afternoon. My iris have started to bloom.

Some people want to go to Mars, where it is never warm or sunny, never rains, and there are no flowers. I'd rather stay here - although Italy sounds really nice.

I had a spell of aspiration around 1 this morning and now hurting more and a headache that I never have. With achalasia this happens ever so often, just wish it wasn’t now. I will be eating light tomorrow, maybe just crackers and water.

my brother met my SIL when he was stationed in Naples and the go back to visit her family every so often. I get over my health issues, I might go with them next time they go.

    Good afternoon all.

Thank you for your thoughts and encouragement about my concerns with the rewedding. This was 100% driven by my friend, the brides mom. She insistences her daughter isn't married unless its in the Catholic church. Apparently, I have no idea, if your not married in the Catholic church you can't take communion. That was the driving force of this second event. Anyway, we dressed up, put smiles on our faces and attended. I can't tell you what it was, because it was really just a very brief, yup your married, thanks for coming service. Then we went to their very lovely house and backyard for lunch and sat and chatted for quite sometime. It was quite lovely. Very relaxing and calming. The weather was beautiful so all in all a perfect day.

Now, to find something to fix for dinner. Back later to check on everyone. Be safe.

    JeriLynn- Congrats on Babatte! 😄

Iris - I'm so excited about your trip! I just love Italy, and Florence is just gorgeous. Judith is so right - you have to go out of your way to find bad food in Italy.

I still follow the snow pack in California. It's scary low.

HB -Right?! (about the air mattress) My mom-in-law's facility does have some guest suites that we can reserve, and occasionally we do, but they book up fast. We were able to get one of them for one night this last trip.

Hahahahaha on Katy Perry. She is kind of annoying.

eaglemom - I think that's true - if you aren't married in the Catholic church you can't take communion. Rules seem to be somewhat flexible though … my cousin got married in the church - after he divorced his first wife, and his second wife isn't Catholic. No clue how he made that happen.

I'm glad the two of you had a good time at the party and that everything was perfect.

Carl - I'd go to Mars if I could - but I'd want to come back. The place that I'm most curious about though is Titan (moon of Saturn). It has an atmosphere and the photos I've seen from Cassini show a very earth-like landscape. Like this mosaic image : Titan shoreline And this image could be anywhere on Earth.

And on my end of the porch — we're getting ready to have paella, a festive dish for a festive day. Forty years ago today I went on my first date with my s.o. And here we still are. 🙂 I remember I had on blue nail polish that day, so today - my nails are again blue.
