Hello, it's been a year or so since my Mom passed away from Alzheimer's. Now a family member is insinuating that my Dad might have Alzheimer's. He wakes up with a humming sound, is that a indication of Alzheimer's? Please respond.

Waking up humming, or hearing humming? Sorry, but either way, that's a rather broad symptom. I've never heard of humming being linked to anything, but there's a first for everything. What is it that others are saying is an indicator besides that? Best way is to have a doc check it out. Maybe rule out other possibilities, first.

Since your subject included the word “ringing,” the first thing I thought of was tinnitus. I have chronic tinnitus so I know what that’s like. One of my ears has it due to a side effect of radiation I had 31 years ago on that area of my head and the other ear started last year but it’s from “normal aging” side effects according to several ear doctors I went to. I think it’s a good idea to get him to an ENT doctor. It could be tinnitus that’s temporary brought on by other issues or it could be normal aging. Best of luck in getting concrete answers for him.
