A caregiver for my father who was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia/Alzheimers

Hello everyone, I am 22, a caregiver taking care of her father at the age 58. This is my first time really giving a shot at something like this. I am just happy to know that I am not alone and that there is a community of people who are going through the same thing. If anyone has any advice for me, I would be more than happy to take it.
Thank you!

Welcome Faith, i am so sorry you are burdened with this at such a young age, this is generally a time when you should be hoping to focus on building your own life. Do you have other family to help? Do you hold power of attorney for your dad? Are you trading caregiving for room and board? It's very difficult to be the primary caregiver if you don't also have the authority to make decisions.

Hi. I'm sorry you and your father are dealing with this. Both of you are so young.

M1 brings up an important topic. Your father should have legal documents like POA done asap. And you'll need to have a longterm plan.

Learn as much as you can about dementia. LBD has additional burdens and knowledge is power. I've been collecting some resources and helpful posts. Maybe some of this will help: https://alzconnected.org/group/32-new-caregiver-help

Most importantly, take care of yourself.

Hi, thank you. My mom is the POA and takes care of everything on that end. We both are his primary caretakers at the moment. We do have a caregiver that comes once a week but it is still hard.
